Whilst I agree that driving 140 on the motorway is daft and dangerous, especially "regularly", the fact is that if Jim was caught he would have been arrested. Not pulled over and given a ticking off, arrested. Then he might have lost his job due to not being able to drive. Certainly the fine would run into thousands of pounds.
However, the problem is that the policeman here got off free for driving illegally and like a "cranial Richard".
I, like Simon, have driven a car "to see what it would do", but the cumulative danger of driving like a bat out of hell once is less than that of doing it regularly. It's still dangerous and stupid, but less dangerous and a little less stupid.
Stupidest thing I ever did was 100mph through Knightsbridge (past Harrods) on a motorbike, whilst racing a car in the wee hours. I would never do it again, it was a stupid spur-of-the-moment "Aha, so he thinks he can beat me does he?" that started on the Hammersmith flyover. Afterwards you realise that the tiniest thing could have ended up with you and any innocents caught up getting killed. Especially if you have a car behind you ALSO doing 100mph. If the Police had seen me then I would have lost my licence and quite rightly so.
Do I win the prize for most dangerous driver going unpunished?
