Police Brutality

Sorry dex I don't understand "it's not his call" we ask the Police to do a difficult job. They have to deal some extremely difficult people and yet, when an Officer makes a call we think wrong we want him sacked or imprisoned or both.

I think too many people look at an incident in isolation, a video clip doesn't always tell the full story, a witness doesn't always tell the truth.

I am very wary of giving anyone a carte blanche.

...they obviously aren't Dex because we are talking (originally) about a guy whole got dragged into court to explain his actions....luckily he had independent witnesses to prove that what he did was reasonable.
Let's just be clear here. We are talking about a protester causing trouble and getting trouble....no-one is being dragged off to camps...lets keep it in perspective.

True. I doubt whether many on here were able to argue their case fully armed with all of the available evidence. So on both sides of the argument assumptions have been made.

I agree...and I will be honest, although I had my thoughts about his actions before the court case, I'd like to think if I had heard that independent witnesses had said his guy was trying to cause trouble and was out of order, and the court ruled as such, that I would have changed my mind and taken the courts decision as the right one.

We are all assuming we know more than we do...I am lucky enough to have picked the correct view....by sheer chance perhaps.

what really pee's me off is how in this country we have to do everything by the book. We go to war, and the enemy can plant nasty bombs, and torture captured soldiers, and steal and loot anything they like... whereas, our soldiers need to shake the enemy's hand, and slap him across the face with his glove before giving him a 50:50 chance of escape in a fire fight !

Oh and the police... they have to manage a dispute between two extremely violent factions in order to protect the likes of me and you.. and our business interests (completely ecceptable)... and 'innocent' people get a slap from the policeman in the middle of all this?.... WTF do these people expect, stood at the front line of a potential riot? if you have a point to make, go and make it peacefully, and stop inciting violence (which is invariably where the police have to put themselves)...

It's far too easy in this country to use the law to your own devices.... and i for one would quite happily see the police dish out much more of that kind or discipline, especially to people whio haven't got the common sense to know when they should move away from a particular situation...

I'm being goaded by Imam. My hackles are rising

Breathe, Breathe. :)

Edit..

...Just actually hit upon something (excuse the Pun)..
...I don't see the hitting as a punishment...I saw it as a way to move the people...i don't think I would agree at all if I thought of it as a punishment....For me there is a huge difference.

Tomlinson's injuries are quite long lasting.

...if you sneezed loudly and someone next to you had a fright and died of a heart attack, should you be done for murder?? Or should we just say..."hmmm he was a bit f***ed up to have that kill him...maybe he was already ill...!"

If you were barged to the ground by a burly police officer when you were walking away with your hands in your pockets and within a few minutes you were dead would you say "mm maybe he was ill or something?" Does it matter if he is ill? Can I go out and kill any person with a medical condition and say "Oh well! They were ill anyway?" For heaven's sake think about what you are saying.

Out of all the thousands of coppers on duty that day only two felt the need to behave like the Gestapo. Either that two were right and the rest were wrong - or that two were wrong and will be treated with the contempt they deserve. Anyway, it won't happen again - or they'll be be starring on Utube once more. The protesters are in possession of the most powerful weapon they could wish for - irrefutable evidence of Police brutality on video. And that's the way it should be. Get rid of the odd bad apple before it sends the whole lot bad.
Whichever government gets in at the election will have to make swingeing cuts that might not suit a lot of people - there may well be protests like there were over the poll tax. You may be part of that protest. Ask yourselves - would you really like to be brutalised by our very own police force for taking part in righting what you believed to be a wrong? Well would you?
