Power cuts by the weekend ?

Interesting excerpt from that, .........

We are an outlier from the rest of Europe when it comes to the role of storage in our energy system and we are now seeing the implications of that” said Chris O’Shea, Group Chief Executive of Centrica.
We sure are, outlier being another way to say sh1te.

i see everyone is concentrating on the gas and missing the reason why the reserves could be used up within the next week .. No wind and cold weather so no generation there as happened in texas a couple of years ago

It's not all about the reserves though, is it

Your message must have been delayed in the system somewhere, it doesn't make any sense

I used to live in a country that had a large underground gas storage capacity to tide us over a cold winter.

When it needed renovation, the Government decided that the nation's energy security was not a government duty. So it was closed.

Can you guess which country it was?

Worryingly I have been seeing social media adverts by vox pop people in the street asking if they know what to do in a power cut, I grabbed a screenshot from one. Also I have seen the same poster on the back of a bus. The stupid net zero nonsense has brought us to this. View attachment 369275

Many conspiracists say that Starmer is a WEF puppet and wants to crash the UK economy so that he can snatch our assets for the reset. We will all own nothing and be thoroughly miserable.

Seems incredible. But with Rache doing her best to damage The UK economy and Millipede ruining our energy security................................................ well all I can say is we should remember those conspiracies when we're all broke and sitting in the dark.

Yes, it's because we are going through a calm winter spell, as happens

And we have insufficient reserve energy stores to cope with a not-exceptionally-severe winter.

Maybe next week, or next month, or next year, will be better.

But maybe it won't.

Did winter take you by surprise?

I’m surprised at the lack of understanding here.

We are not at risk of emptying our reserves because they are too small. It is because the price to top them up is unattractive.

The bigger you make it, the more expensive it gets, the smaller you make it the more risk you take that you have to buy at the wrong price.

If the government wanted to take action it might be to separate storage away from a company that also trades. They seem to be struggling with the conflict of interest.

I hadn't actually realised that. I thought supply was still tight because of Russia.

So, on a practical level how does it work. Are there lots of LNG tankers docked at the terminals or anchored off shore waiting to unload once whoever owns the gas is offered enough money?
