Hi all,

About to start a bathroom and it occurred to me that anything that might need to run under the floor for future projects is best done now before it's all tiled. We don't have an EV yet but it's inevitable we will do at some point. We have an attached garage at the other side of the house so thought it might be worth running some cable now so we don't have to rip up the bathroom and other upstairs rooms later on. The CU is in the room below the bathroom and it's a solid ground floor house, so no option to go under, and I really don't want cables on the outside of the house. I'd probably go for 10mm2 just to keep options open (and less worry about cable heating/loss - it's a run of ~20m).

My question is, am I wasting my time? Would an electrician be happy to use a pre-run cable or would they want to run it themselves to make sure they're happy with it in order to certify it/whatever they need to do anyway?

Likely they would want to run the cables themselves, but as long as you have the electrical installation certificate then they may accept that, often however some light coms cables are also required, depending on the charge point installed, not just power, and there are special SWA cables which combine both, likely needs to be SWA so that any RCD is at the charge point, not permitted to share RCD for most installs.

But electricians need special training to fit charge points, and I have not had the training. So wait and see what others say.
