Replacement rods in cable fishing kit

Because they snap easy ….( it’s the weakest part of the rod )
That’s good to know, thanks. I considered some rods a while back as I was on some thermostat installs, probably don’t need them now.

Fair enough... I have never had one snap though.

Might it be the case that it might more susceptible to snapping if using less flexible rods?

When using my basic Super Rod set, I always use the thinner yellow rod first. I notice that many people (with more experience than me) are recommending cheaper but presumably more rigid rods.

Surely, a more flexible rod will take the pressure off the connections?

And to be honest at this distance they look similar to the CPC set which has served me very well and done some heavy work too.

It's horses for courses, for example I have several flexible (nylon monofilment type of feeling) rods about 150mm long, sometimes they are Gods gift, other times they are a total PITA.
Yes I have snapped a few but there has always been a reason, never broken during 'normal use'.

And how often do you use these rods ?

And in case anybody is interested …..

About 3 or 4 times a years.
In which case it's probably fair to say any old tat will do.
Many on here are likely to use them on a daily basis. I was somewhere in the middle where it would be almost daily for a week or two then not touch them for a month. After losing the super rods I found a cheap (thinner) set easier to work with and, I don't know if this is imagination or fact- reduced weight to push/pull through restrictions.

Fair play. I did once buy a cheapo set from Toolstation. I was feeding coax cable through ceiling voids. I found the cheap cables to be vastly inferior, by that, I mean that the lack of flexibility meant that I had to fashion a wire coat hanger to pull the rigid cable down from the void. I wouldn't have (necessarily) needed to do that with my Super Rods. The floppy bit on the end of the super rods can often be grabbed using the hook included with the kit.

I disliked the cheap kit so much so that when a barman in my local asked to use them to push through the glass washer waste pipe, I told him to keep them.

For it it is worth, I don't have a dog in this "fight". I am tool snob when it comes down to certain tools, eg Festool sanders but not when it comes down to cable rods.
