After you.If he agree my price then I d look and assess the can.
After you.
I don't want that type of work, thank you. More than enough of the sensible stuff.
Ironic, really. People try to do it themselves because they don't want to pay high prices...then end up paying them anyways when a plumber has 'em by the short n' curlies in an emergency.I get plenty of emergency callouts that pay well due to people trying to do themselves.
It's a avenue of work, and how i earn money.
I had a better business than that.Ironic, really. People try to do it themselves because they don't want to pay high prices...then end up paying them anyways when a plumber has 'em by the short n' curlies in an emergency.

"right ball park" for a rip off you mean. As it happens I have just had the self same job done on my upstairs toilet by a well known and qualified local man and I stood by in case he needed some help. Well it was a bit of a struggle but he had it all done within 1/2 hour and he charged me £70 including the new parts so I now know for certain that the old lady was ripped off by the git who did her job. Here is a guide from a plumbing company who have some guide pricing online (admittedly its London area so could be a bit dearer than your area)
"To replace the flush and fill valve on a toilet cistern, a plumber would typically charge between £80 and £120. The job should take 1-2 hours to complete."
its probably in the right ball park

Was this your "well qualified plumber brother" or someone different? What help could someone who can’t change a flush valve possibly give to a well qualified plumber doing the job - wipe his brow and hand him tools while he was performing the operation? Couldn’t you have got this well known and qualified local man to do the same for your "old dear pensioner and very old friend"?As it happens I have just had the self same job done on my upstairs toilet by a well known and qualified local man and I stood by in case he needed some help.
