If he agree my price then I d look and assess the can.

After you.

I don't want that type of work, thank you. More than enough of the sensible stuff.

I get plenty of emergency callouts that pay well due to people trying to do themselves.

It's a avenue of work, and how i earn money.

Ironic, really. People try to do it themselves because they don't want to pay high prices...then end up paying them anyways when a plumber has 'em by the short n' curlies in an emergency.

I had a better business than that.
Lots of cheapskates would contact me for kitchens and then go with the cowboys because they were cheaper.
Then they would call me to fix things and end up spending more than what i quoted originally.
There was a rumour going around the local pubs that I was in business with the cowboys :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:
One of the best one I had was a Karen who had the kitchen extension built by "the opposite front of cowboys" for half my quote.
They did a runner and then the Karen found out they hadn't applied for planning permission nor building control.
Council order demolition because the structure was unsafe (it was).
She ended up spending almost double than my original quote.
I kept on hearing the husband saying "I told you", every day I was there :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

I get that brissaly feeling ½3 on a Sunday morning when they call.

Here is a guide from a plumbing company who have some guide pricing online (admittedly its London area so could be a bit dearer than your area)

"To replace the flush and fill valve on a toilet cistern, a plumber would typically charge between £80 and £120. The job should take 1-2 hours to complete."

its probably in the right ball park

"right ball park" for a rip off you mean. As it happens I have just had the self same job done on my upstairs toilet by a well known and qualified local man and I stood by in case he needed some help. Well it was a bit of a struggle but he had it all done within 1/2 hour and he charged me £70 including the new parts so I now know for certain that the old lady was ripped off by the git who did her job.

Itchy chin!

So, parts, labour, call out, insurances, training, equipment, etc etc...all for £70…?

This is the type of Shyster that's out there. And there are far to many of these Sh!iters.

However unless this fella you speak of did a shockingly bad repair, then he's not one of these Shi!ters I speak of.

The fella who rescued you! Did he appreciate you assisting him?

We all need customers standing behind us all the time!

Not that I believe that you had the job done and paid so little.

Was this your "well qualified plumber brother" or someone different? What help could someone who can’t change a flush valve possibly give to a well qualified plumber doing the job - wipe his brow and hand him tools while he was performing the operation? Couldn’t you have got this well known and qualified local man to do the same for your "old dear pensioner and very old friend"?

You need to call a plumber out….to fix all the holes in your story

Make sure it’s a “qualified local man” eh

I am of course well aware that those that continue to comment are probably members of the thieving brigade who habitually rip off women and pensioners.
