Playing devil's advocate.....
An applicant (for asylum) should be judged on their merit of their application.
Allowing someone to work - while it has obvious merit - could muddy the judgement on their original application.
Which is why, I suppose, the "can't work" rule is in place to start with?

There wouldn't be much point of a work visa system, if you could just bypass it.

If these asylum seekers were scooped up on the beach and flown straight to safety in Rwanda while their claim was processed, how many do you think would still pay the traffickers thousands of pounds to come over here by boat?
The U.K. is my country, I don’t want to leave because 13 years of Conservative power and Brexit have ruined it.

If you don’t want them to work, then you must be happy to provide accomodation and money.
They are refugees, not asylum seekers. The main difference with that is that when that war is over they will all go back home. In any case, they are mainly women and children - the first two categories that are helped into a lifeboat when a ship is sinking. Not fit young men. In fact, my friends daughter put up a Ukranian mother and daughter for a year. They have now gone back home.
