The discussion is not a competition about who knows the most about maritime law and navigation. That has extremely little to do with it.
The discussion is about anti-immigrant campaigners trying to force their political ideology onto charitably-funded dedicated rescue organisations.
Which is exactly what you, Steve Laws (the immigration spokesperson for UKIP) and other anti-immigration campaigners, such as Nigel Farage, DM, etc., are doing. We've all seen in the past how anti-immigration campaigners will misrepresent photographs and fantasy warnings etc, to persuade the gullible and immoral to support their crusade.
That's akin to RSPCA arguing that the RNIB should not use guide dogs.
Or arguing that the Red Cross should not provide aid in Muslim countries, etc. It's pure political dogma overriding moral and ethical judgments.
But you, and Steve Laws, et al, are exploiting some knowledge of maritime navigation tracking systems to misrepresent your political ideological argument. That's disgusting and immoral, and it's as bad as Brexiteers warning of 7,000,000 Turks 'invading' UK.

1. Most people making journeys across the Mediterranean, and most of those gathered at Calais, are refugees
2. These are people fleeing persecution and terror
3. There are no safe and lawful routes available for these people
4. There is no legal requirement for a refugee to claim asylum in any particular country
5. The UK is not disproportionately affected by the global refugee crisis, and neither is Europe
6. The UK asylum system is no more generous than many others
Of course we’re all free to believe the opposite to these truths if we’re so inclined. But doing so won’t help us face up to the current global refugee crisis and it won’t make it go away either.

That won't solve the problem! And it won't prevent the problem getting worse, and it won't stop the suffering experienced by thousands or millions of people.

The point was that everyone and their dogs call this a "migrant crisis", except for the brain-dead apologists. MP's of all sides, the EU, other countries, everyone knows they are migrants. Even the migrants know they are migrants right up until they touch a handrail on RNLI boat that has been Ubered to them, or they feel sand between their toes at Dover after their illegal sneaky night crossing - at these points they become self-described "asylum seeking refuges from a dangerous country" forgetting the 10 safe countries they've holidayed in on their journey "to safety".

The number of refugees typically in Calais is about .01% of the current Syrian refugees alone*.
The number of refugees resettled in UK in six years was about 0.45% of the current Syrian refugees alone*.
Then there's the refugees from Eritrea, Sudan, Afghanistan and Iraq, etc.
And climate change is only going exacerbate the problem.
