Well, if you can't tell a real note from a fake one, get yourself one of them checking markers and a uv light.
Fiver at most.
That thinking about it. It would be a bit foolish
for someone to give me their driving license, and five fake grand in £50 notes

Exactly.
And then, how many fake notes are around?
It would be a bit unlucky to come across a car thief using fake notes.
I mean, the cops could easily find the car and the new registered keeper that you've carefully listed in the online form before partying with your car.
Driving licence essential for this.

Giving it thought, that's what I thought too. No one will draw that attention to themselves.

I'll also ask for a selfy when he's test driving.

How much is your time worth to advertise, answer inquiries, be around for every test drive, check and record details of all interested people ?

Versus how much price difference you will get for just selling it to a car sales site direct, or failing that a "webuyanycar" type place.

I do agree but I do have time.
I suppose I'll weigh this up once I get a taste of the first car I sell.

Do people generally take insurance for test driving from private sellers?
Tell them they'll need to bring their licence and insurance if they want a test drive and take a photo of both before letting them drive it otherwise tell them it will just be you driving it.

Show them who's boss.

I'll do just that.

Good history, especially service records = more desirable
I realise this but if I haven't got a full book of services.
Ultimately if they want the car they will make me an offer. It's down to me if I except any offers thrown my way.

I've always serviced my cars myself.
Kept all parts receipts and noted in service book date, mileage and what was done.
All cars I sold were bought by first viewer.
It would appear that people trust diy "mechanics" more than main dealers.
I do.

When I sold my motor a couple of years back and following the buyer's commitment to purchase, I was able to arrange for the two of us to pop into my local building society. Here he handed the cash payment to myself who immediately passed this to the cashier- it then being the problem of the BS to establish that the notes were pukka.

Additionally, we were then able to use the BS's server to access the DVLA website to make the online transfer of owner. Once this task was complete the new buyer was able to take the keys and drive off with his purchase.

Elsa - note that the sum involved here was only a piddling €£1,500, but I cannot see why the same sort of situation my not be applicable to your Honda. Of course, it is not always straight forward to park near to a building society or bank etc but if this is possible you may consider my experience worthy of consideration.

Addenda: It is indeed the case that this branch of the BS has now shut down - replaced, inevitably, by another so-essential estate agent - so such a transaction would not be possible in the same way now. ☹
