Hi,

I have just had a shell loft conversion done and I need some assistance in understanding the steps needed to complete the loft conversion to a finished state.

I am a competent DIYer - would some one be able to help me to understand at what stage would I do the first fix of plumbing, electrics? would that be after stud walls? after insulation?

Any tips and guidance will be appreciated.

Attached is the loft plan.

Stairs will be put in by the builder.

I will need everything else to be installed:

1)electrics - new ring
2)lighting - new radial
3)heating - radiators
3)hot/cold water for bathroom

You will not need a ring. A 20A radial will be plenty.

Depending on the existing circuits, you may be able to extend them.

Ditto the lighting.

Thank you.

which order would I get the internal works done?

1-stud walls?
2-first fix electrics/plumbing?
3-insulation?
4-plasterboard?

Agreed, loft conversions are a minefield of regulation and you have to stick to them, I did mine 15 years ago and can only imagine it's even more strict now.
You need to talk to the building inspector

I specifically asked the builder to build me a watertight shell, including windows and stairs.

I have had drawings done by architect which speciies all the room sizes, windows, insulation etc.

I did it this way because i am competent at DIY and fell comfortable doing stud walls, insulation, etc.

I just need aome guidance on which order things should be done.

I know that after the ridge beam goes in, i need to inform the building inspector.

The structural calculations were also provided with the drawings - i spoke to the building inspector and he said the before work is done on insulation - he would to see how all the besms have been installed

All in, the exterior shell works is almost done except windows and stairs
