Smear Karma

The hard left (Corbyn cultists) call Starmer: Kieth or Sir Kid Starver

They hate Starmer with a passion

They’ve all buggered off to the Green Party and are infesting it with their hate

denso13 doesn't understand, that someone £1 below that level, will then be £300 better off than, than your man £1 above the claim level.
The Government should have tapered the removal of the grant.
Someone under the limit gets the full whack, every pound over the limit should mean entitlement gradually reduced to zero.

You are absolutely right, but pensioners became an easy target.

Never mentioned in the Manifesto.
Labour knows that a lot of old folk vote Tory, especially the better off ones.
So, they don't mind ****ing off this demographic as they calculate that they don't vote for Labour anyway.

Some do. More than used to.

The difference is that the predominantly elderly members of the Con party don't care about anybody else. Hence their miniscule support among people below retirement age. Even the over-50s. You are seeing some changes that you aren't used to.

Don't you remember seeing this?

Look at the bottom right-hand corner.

You want a taper on 200 quid? C'mon...

80% of pensioners own their own home

They are not the poorest demographic in society
You can own your own home and still be poor.
Asset rich and cash poor i think its called.

They do it pension credit i believe and other benefits.
Every £500 in savings over the limit limit and entitlement to pension credit is reduced by £1.
Same with other benefits like universal credit.

Not "Poor" in the sense that a person who has no savings, and also owns no home, is poor.

If you own your home, and are old, you have probably paid off the mortgage. You have a valuable asset that your could sell, or leave to somebody.

If you rent your home, and are old, you still have to pay rent, and have nothing to show for it.

If you rent your home, and are old, you still have to pay rent, and have nothing to show for it.
If an old person whose only asset is their home and they had to sell it , they would have some cash but nowhere to live.
They would then have to rent somewhere to live and pay rent, this would just create more demand for rental properties.
How long they lived would
decide how long their savings lasted.

If an old person whose only asset is their home and they had to sell it ,

They would still not be as poor as the old person with no savings who did not own a home.

You are wasting your time if you try to make out that a person with a valuable asset is worse off than a person without one.

They are not creating demand for rental property if they sell their house. Its the same number of houses involved. Somebody renting might buy the house, or a landlord who rents it out.

False argument.

The point is if the mortgage is paid they have no rent or mortgage to pay out. Better off than those who have to pay out.

This is £200 we're talking about (y)

a pensioner with a £300k home is a damn site richer than a pensioner living in rented accommodation with zero assets

a pensioner with a home has security of tenure and they can do equity release and stay in their home
