The EU referendum result is not really comparable to what is happening in Ukraine.
Maybe Scots should be denied the right to independence on the grounds that are part of a sovereign state.

No they didn't.
They voted by a majority for the whole of the UK to stay.
Although i doubt that remain would win a majority in the event of another referendum.
so you think Russia is entitled to invade Ukraine, and annexe its territory. Obviously you would also support the EU invading NI to liberate the EU-loving population, forced to leave against their will.

They had some one from that lot on the box saying we should send troops and engage with the Russians. I took it to be the same as the USA news and statements we hear. Mostly intended for their population so one decided to make more extreme noises for us here. Who knows though. Those 2 war study links I posted are not from noddy sources and show that they have been thinking about how to have a war with Russia mostly in relationship to situations like Ukraine. Rather crazy comment in one though suggesting it may take Russia 5 days to rearm. It does indicate that Russia used long range fire to prevent Donbas from being over run / end civilian casualties and achieve a cease fire, Shelling was indiscriminate.
What will happen will and it will also happen when it does. Looks to me like the USA can't loose prestige what ever does happen irrespective of what happens.
Yes probably trying to get a definite date when indications are they can not currently join. It also sounds to me that they may not meet full EU membership requirements.

The Ukrainian leaders are blaming rightly so the UK & USA for causing "panic" and "no evidence to back up their claims."
IMO, Englands PM is only interested in distraction from the real woes in England EG, his lying and lying and mass inflation and triple lock pension being meaningless and interest rates going up etc etc.
Lets hope Mrs Putin has the guts to take Dombas and move some of her troops back after that then we get sheaper gas and people can live in peace for a few more years

As I first said on the very first thread to reference this current affair, Russia will not attempt to conquer Ukraine -- it just won't happen for many reasons.
I said that if anything happens militaristically, it would be another (official) incursion into the Eastern parts of the country. I have today read that the state Duma (Parliament) is proposing a vote on recognising the independence of Donetsk and Luhansk. If my 'prediction' is true and this vote passes, this will likely be the reason for an armed conflict between Ukraine and Russia, as the newly-formed state would likely as for military protection and assistance.

except they won't be independent, they will be annexed by the Russian Empire.
Well yes, and large swathes of the population in those regions would be happy with it, but that's another topic...
My point is that recognition of independence is a huge step toward an official military incursion.
