Let's be realistic. Imagine you were a hardpressed taxpayer like me and in Germany rather than London. To wind up pussy Putin and then see gas/electric prices rocket by 500% would be a massive impact on most inc all businesses and sky rocket infaltion.

My contacts agree with me the reason pussy Putin gave Dmbas and the other state their independence is that the vast majority are pro russian but more importantly he knew that Biden, our clown Boris, the french bloke and whoever leads Germany did not have the balls to seize his assets.
It would have been simple to stop putin in declaring Dmbas and the other place as independent if the west/usa brought in sanctions where they seized putins and his cronies money and that is a fact. Sadly, many lack the single brain cell needed to see the reality of the world we live in and trust their leaders to their cost.
