I misread
In 1994, Moldova became a member of NATO's Partnership for Peace program, and a member of the Council of Europe on 29 June 199

C4 managed to find a video of what looked to be a small antiwar demo in St Petersburg however they did point out later that photo's and videos come from all sorts of sources. Also that propaganda is coming from both sides. They mentioned that so far Russia has done nothing to communications which suggests they want what is going on there to to be available world wide. So far they don't seem to be into shock and awe Iraq style. That appeared to involve also taking out all of the utilities.

They also had a leaked video of Tory talks to a couple of soldier types in camo where one Tory said we have pushed them back before so can do so again with a laugh. It didn't look to go down well. In fact it embarrassed another Tory who was interviewed later.

After sending Truss to speak to a Russian version of Kissinger with lots of diplomacy background I nosed to see what sort of person the USA used. If my googling was correct he worked alongside Biden on a plan for Iraq that didn't get through. The idea seemed to be split it into 3. One lot and one end and another at the other end and put the Kurds in the middle.

Sanctions. Same from several sources. Very tricky. Costs will largely fall on Europe, that's us too folks, so a tricky. Doesn't seem to be any talk of using them on gas and oil but even without those Germany will suffer more than most. Gas and oil - there are already too many problems with those without making them worse. Grain mentioned too. Russia had already reduced what it usually exports prior to all of this. Significant amounts usually come out of Ukraine.

Russia has vast resources, the west has brains and creativity and the Chinese have massive manufacturing facilities.
If these 3 groups could work togather in a spirit of what used to be called enlightened self interest, then the world could be a wealthier and healthier place.

you're a person who wanted his country to resign from mutual co-operation with its nearest neighbours.

After sending Truss
Where does Boris find people like her.
She thought the Baltic states were on the Black sea.
She then said to the Russian negotiator Lavrov that Britain would never recognise Russian sovereignty over Rostov, someone had to remind her that Rostov is in Russia and not UKraine.

"Why should Putin care about Ukraine’s non-military political choices? The logic is easy enough to explain. It is impossible to have economic integration with both the EU and Russia; a country has to choose.

But choosing the EU also means — at least in principle and in due time — rejecting the corrupt and autocratic governance that characterises Russia and that it would serve Putin for Ukraine to retain."

"German foreign minister Annalena Baerbock put it with perfect clarity this morning: “This war is intended to destroy one thing — Ukrainians’ hope that after decades of unfreedom they have a right to democracy, a right to peace and to a better future without oppression.” Let there be no doubt that Putin’s war is a punishment for Ukraine’s desire to be a European country living by the values the EU was built to protect. That is what we must defend."

Putins desired result is a secure border. The US desired result is regime change in Russia.

Now that's a tad ambitious given the US record on "helping" other countries to embrace democracy.

Putin won't back down & the Ukrainian armed forces will offer up little resistance . . . . So it HAS to either stop there or it will escalate into something else entirely.

Putin bad. Biden has Alzheimers . . . . So who running the show???

Day one: a summary.
Russia Ukraine invasion: what we know so far | Ukraine | The Guardian

Ukraine's appeals for help will surely be ignored and lead to a sense of betrayal by the west, giving Putin more power to twist the narrative in Russia's favour after installing a favourable government to Russian interests.
Judging by the military build-up and the swift execution of their strategy i'd estimate the planning for these operations took at least six months to a year.

At the end of the day why should Americans send there sons and daughters to die in Europe ( again) ??

The Ukrainian resistance will collapse

and Ukraine will become part of greater Russia

They do and always have in respect to the bold part - it's called business. It's why for instance there are billions of western money in Russia. Self interest all round with all sides involved. Business seeks profit. Politics is something else that has to "put up" with business.

You've obviously never heard of (in no particular order) the game of 'Rock Paper Scissors'...

And it's rather condescending to claim that 'the west has brains' and intimate that the others don't...

That's a colonial attitude, and here's the point...

The world has moved on, and as has been widely shown the western countries aren't as clever as they think they are!

Oh! the joyful irony of discussing a war in Ukraine when the OP is saying the exact opposite?
