Not a NATO member, as others have stated. Formerly part of Romania until 1940 when Romania was compelled to cede the area to Russia under the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact (i.e Russia-Nazi Germany). Declared independence from Moscow when the Soviet Union disintegrated in 1991. A small area near the Ukranian border, called Transnistria, has a large number of ethnic Russians and broke away fighting a civil war in 1992 which Russian "peacekeepers" entered the region to put a stop to. They are still there despite requests by Moldova for them to leave. It is a very poor country - the former Soviet Union did little to improve that in 50 years. So snother gormer vassal state that may be on Putin's shopping listNext along the cost is Moldova.A bit of a bent place some years ago with no recent info. NATO member as well.

What did the west do when Putin walked into the Crimea a pro Russian enclave
