Not a NATO member, as others have stated. Formerly part of Romania until 1940 when Romania was compelled to cede the area to Russia under the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact (i.e Russia-Nazi Germany). Declared independence from Moscow when the Soviet Union disintegrated in 1991. A small area near the Ukranian border, called Transnistria, has a large number of ethnic Russians and broke away fighting a civil war in 1992 which Russian "peacekeepers" entered the region to put a stop to. They are still there despite requests by Moldova for them to leave. It is a very poor country - the former Soviet Union did little to improve that in 50 years. So snother gormer vassal state that may be on Putin's shopping list

I've worked with a number of Moldovans and Ukranians in recent years. As of today the two guys I am still in contact with are very concerned for their families.

Bozo needs to pull his finger out and actually do something this time. Unless contained that meglomaniac Putin will take over Ukraine, but possibly demand more. This has more than a whiff of WWII, especially with further threats issued by Putin today

Biden chickens out from meaningful sanctions

The subtext of the incompetence of Biden's speech - it will take time and buffer up eastern EU borders.

Article 5 will not be triggered. USA troops not moving into Ukraine - IMO a very sensible move after what the unhinged Putin against "interference."
