Stock market dealing

Thanks. Although I think you might be giving me more credit than I deserve. The breakout and high volume came at 15:06 and I had already got in at 14:52. I did it more on the basis that there was a dip in an upward trend and the traderlive email spoke about tesla analyst upgrades. I got out because it started to show red candles, and I felt that it had to run out of steam before too long given the shortened hours of trading. Agreed, I could have done this perhaps a minute earlier.

Well you were in a pullback area then.
That's the nice thing about a catalyst, your chances are much better.

You enetered at the grey/blue squiggle
Those bands and the BUY indicators come from Tradingview. I haven't used those before.
Playing with them, they seem to be saying, "It was lower and now it's going up, so buy". Well, no sh*t sherlock, but it's like the moving average method, works overall I suppose.
The "Select Bar" thing is to help with backtesting.
I think you get the TradingView toys inthe free version but only for one name at a time

A fixed rate savings thing just matured so I'll stick it in a S&S ISA at T212. They currently give 5.2%. NVD3 has been good to me in EToro so I'll use it for that, when things stabilise a bit.
India is going OK, and Japan should be better soon, and as (if/when) the Yen strengthens it'll take the shares value higher.

Concensus of highly paid people seems to be that there could be pull back in the tech sector in the next week or three, possibly 25% or so. Whenever I've reacted to such hings it has turned out to be insignificant or it comes right back in a week.. July last year was flat though.
The banks' results are the next ones out I think. The numbers usually rise into results, followed by a crap shoot on the day, so the buildup is the safer play.
Ethereum has an etf coming out "soon" apparently so that should jump - sometime.

I have a lot in LLY. There have been whinges from Biden about egregious prices of drugs in the USA (because they're afraid of getting sued) and vague reports of problems wit the diet pills, so that could cost me a carworth or houseworth, we'll see.

It would be more impressive if TradingView could show some sell signals as well - deciding when to sell was probably the hardest thing about that trade.

I've been thinking that the Yen will strengthen for over a year now - no sign of it yet.

I've done quite well on the betting exchanges this week over Biden's deteriorating chances of being being Democrat nominee. Is there a spreadbetting proxy I can use for that?

if TradingView could show some sell signals as well
YOu can do your own. The simple ones [edit - which you can get TV to show you] are always late. Ones based on Macd with adjusted periods, or commodity channel which is actually similar, can be good at telling you when there's a divergence, so you get out when it goes peaky
Biden's deteriorating

spreadbetting proxy
So you're short Biden? Yuh I think that stock is weakening too.
Trendwise , oil, and a few other sectors are reckoned to rise when T gets in.

Friday I was half asleep. I came to, at the pc, with no positions open. Panicked for a mo then realised they'd hit TPs not SLs, so not so bad.
Got lucky with ZAPP. I noticed the blue peak on a scanner pre-market, so went long a couple of times near the yellows. The second was just before the close. Not big punts but the percentages were nice. Ever tried small-cap gappers? When they're good they can be very good.
CHerif and Neal started with those. Their "rules" filter for the higher chance ones, but it's a bit of a lottery.
1720265818107.png

India is currently good. Japan should come up, especially if there are jitters in the US.
If T gets in and sends a few hundred thousand immigrants back, their labour supply problems will magnify. High import tarrifs on China will cause a big inflation boost. Oops.
By the way, looked at Turkish stocks? - bonkers.

Still not sure where to start with these. IG doesn't show prices or let me open a position outside market hours for Zapp. I think you previously mentioned the TradingView scanner, but that lists dozens and dozens of movers on the day with rises over 1000%. Maybe I need to pay there to be able to view movers over a shorter time period.

Fastest risers will show it. You have to wade through the porridge of stupidity in the TradingView screener filters. I think Nasdaq site has a premarket scanner too. T212 allows 24/5 trading of some stocks now. At least you can see even if you don't have any money with them. Reluctantly (cos I don't trust them much) I'll stick a S&S ISA with them. Maybe 20k in NVD3 and come back in 6 months...

You might as well, they pay 5% atm.
On IG SB can you use something like 5xMag7? They're spready delayed things but when the apples and softys are rising....

I've been watching Zapp, the small amount I left there has been entertaining. I keep havng a nibble.

Out of hours was good on Intel.
It was rippin up yesterday, I didn't notice until late, but bought some after hours last night, and it's up 5%.( Late night Bloomberg can be interesting.)
It OOH can be good for post-Results too. Things up in the premarket usually at least hold, when the market opens. Volumes on mag7 are always ok.

Having said that I'm going to look at other platforms, maybe XTB, Pepperstone, and a couple of others I've forgotten already. T212 is crappy.

Blimey just noticed your trades of yesterday. Not ideal. Not much is moving enough, but it's worth tuning in to tradertv about 2pm, you'd have got Tesla. I caught a bit of SMCI rising, but the rest of the day was yuk. Adara lost on the day. Someone asked if she followed the SC stickynote - nope!

Microsoft have ordered their staff in China to use iPhones, not Android. Interesting. Though Samsung 's phones are improving..

Just looked at T212 again, after a while. Had forgotten about a trade I placed on Rivian back in February. -£1800 so decided I ought to close it out. I can get 5% in the bank and I don't like all the complicated conditions for getting this at T212 so I don't think I'll put more money there for now.

I can't see anything like 5*7Mag on ig.

OMG, Rivian! Pity you didn't pick NVD3, your 1800 would have been 15k or so. Or is that minus £1800?

I suggested T212 just for the out-of hours trading. I just found from Bloomberg that TSM results are today, so I just bought some. If they dip they'll come back.
On the Invest side they do have a good range of leveraged instruments, long and short, and swap fee free.

1720687770293.png

There are many times that list.
Obviously right now you can jump on something like XPENG3 for a day and pay for dinner. For any sort of screener though, T212 doesn't help, you have to go elsewhere
I used 3x Rolls R for a while and just left it. eToro is better because you can have a trailing stop-loss. So hard to get right, but reduces the effort.
3LRR went up over 8x. You must must be careful the long ones don't go short, though.
I had fun with the chinese EV ADRs when they were flying, just holding overnight, but stopped when I got it very wrong once.

We should journal our trades to highlight what was different, but I certainly don't.
It would only be of use to me if I took better notice...
Do you know what was different?

I need to be more clever with the long-term stuff. What I trade with daily is a small % age, so being in the wrong long term fund or stock too long can overwhelm it.

Fair enough!..

I had an attack of the monster first thing - hubris.
I was sure AMD do well (can't remember why, something I saw somewhere).

It went the wrong way in a manner which stirred the demons, so I closed the position for the biggest loss for a while.
If I'd held , it would have recovered. Closing was against my own "rules", but the finger twitched.
AMD went up consistently for long enough to more or less get it back, but . I'd depleted the pot so I had less to work with.
I always used to start with less then add after the move was confirmed - I'll be doing that more.

What a dismal pursuit this is.
