Sue Gray

I’m not sure how genuine that was…Steve Baker is a known liar, he got done by standards committee for lying in parliament.

I would guess Steve Baker only did it to apply leverage. Johnson promised the ERG he would break the NI protocol and this to me seemed like a warning shot to apply pressure.

Politics is just a game of strategy, you can’t believe anything at face value.

Perhaps. But i listened to him on Nick Robinsons informal interview and his commitment to Christianity is sincere, so when he said he was shocked at de Piffle's bragging away from the Commons i do believe him.
Politicians do swear an oath when entering Parliament and it really matters to those who take such things seriously.
In todays secular informality, it may not mean much to the masses, but in High Places, it does.

What a surprise:

Boris Johnson has watered down the ministerial code and blocked a bid to give his ethics advisor the power to investigate him.

Just days after Sue Gray’s report slammed No10’s leadership for the “culture” that led to Partygate, the Prime Minister issued a new version of the rules for ministers - allowing ministers to break the rules without resigning.

Well that’s a cynical way of looking at it :)

I'm sure you'll provide a rose-tinted view for us all to enjoy soon enough.

Blimey I would not go so far as to say that

Tis obvious that the said code was not up to snuff and there fore not fit for purpose

Johnson in his wisdom tightened up the rules

Simples

He did it to show just how sincere and honest he his. It's weakened. An appology will usually do now.

It seems the select committee still has power but it's a bit like using psychopaths to judge others with the same problem. They may conclude the real problem is Grey and suggest finding some other way of hiding things they get up to. It's always best to find something to blame so why nut Grey.

Does that apply to everyone that regrets breaking the law - whilst they are in the dock?

The 'dock', the electric chair, death by firing squad or life imprisonment are not something usually associated with offences where a fixed penalty notice is deemed adequate.

Don't know. I tried it for speeding and it didn't work for me when I was stopped. I've never been in the dock. Best result I had was by getting out and saying "is there some problem officer". The 2nd officer started laughing,

The curious thing about the code set up is much is down to the cabinet secretary who reports to the PM who then decides if anything should be done. Didn't work out with party gate as he held a party as well so an impartial adviser comes in - Grey. They don't say who the advisor is so could be anybody they choose. Perhaps in this case Boris would have been suitable.

The cabinet secretary told Boris just prior to the report coming out that he wouldn't be resigning. Some though he would be.

The rumours from the jungle is one more and he's out and they are working on who could replace him anyway.

He's had several if you think back - generally embarrassing.

Sue Grey's advisor was Daniel Stilitz, a Labour supporter and staunch remainer with a long history of anti Boris tweets, until he deleted his twitter account of course.

oh dear, so Johnson wasn’t able to put a lying sycophant in that position to cover for him.

Daniel,Stillz is a fine man with honour and integrity, which is why he supported remain.

unlike Liz Truss, David Frost, Bori Johnson, Michael Gove, George Eustace and many others who were also remainers….until they saw a career opportunity.

It should be obvious by now that the Honour System used in Parliament is long dead since de Piffle's New Tories have none at all.
Their respect for Parliamentary democracy only lasts as long as it suits them, if they don't like the game they simply change the rules to sut themselves. The sooner Keir Starmer realises this, the better.
Sadly, Sir Keir is an honest man in a den full of thieves and stands little chance of influencing events while the British public remains indifferent to what the Tories are doing.
