Sue Gray

So when was this CoS role advertised? When did Gray apply? Starmer seems not to want to say, when he started talking to her. The whole thing smells, if he was secretly courting her to join his team while she was carrying out official and supposedly impartial business.

Starmer could have hired any one of the party faithful. I'm sure there would have been plenty of applications. Doesn't seem very "Labour" to secretly hire someone without assessing the market openly. Sounds like something that Labour would be calling "jobs for the boys" had it been the other way around.

I think it will come out in time, that there were discussions going on at a time when there shouldn't have been. Where there is politics there are whatsapp messages and leakers.

Sir Humphrey would not approve.

so you don't know anything. Just trying to throw dirt?

it is probably acceptable to delay her move, possibly 2 or 3 months, I don't think many people would object to that.

but it doesn't affect that report. Who assigned her to do the investigation ? Boris fully agreed the results. He was clever ebough to say " I do not agree with the result of the investigation, but have to accept it (or appeal it because of xyz) .

he knows he was gulty, as does everybody who isn't so far up Boris they can't see daylight. Her report was fair and did not attack the Conservatives in general, just the source of the investigation.

Delay her moving on by all means, but don't tar her as being out to "get Boris for labour"/ it is just cheap nasty politics .

another way of putting it. Do you really think Boris was stitched up?

We will see and yes I think she has damaged her reputation by accepting a political post. The minimum period is 3 months, but it's likely this will be pushed to be 12. There does need to be an air gap. I myself have often signed 12 month restrictive practice contracts for the very reason that I can take sensitive commercial information with me. It's about what you know. Such clauses are enforceable if they are justified and appropriately compensated.

Everybody knows Johnson attended parties, in his own home, office and garden.

And everybody knows that he denied it, in Parliament, repeatedly

And everybody knows that he is a notorious liar.

How would I know, we don't appear to have a reliable independent report any more.

I don't think it was any different to the party Starmer had. But he is an influential lawyer who threatened the full force of his legal team if he was given an FPN.

CoS is such a strange and usually not particularly senior role.

They are getting ready for government where Chief of Staff is, in practice these days, the third most important role after PM and Chancellor. Most likely I think, was that Keir Starmer was impressed by Sue Gray's impartiality and willingness to stand up to pressure from both sides during her inquiry. From what I am reading, she had an incredible reputation, particularly for being professional and impartial, as well as being both very tough and fair.

Most of her high level civil service experience is in ethics and rooting out bad practice. I think it is extremely unlikely anything fishy went on with this appointment.

No doubt he needs someone to tame the lefty lions, if they get a sniff of power.

you really are clutching at straws.

if she had attacked the conservative party in general you may have a point. That's not the case.

Boris was investigated, fairly. Or he was stitched up. It has to be 1 or the other

The sort of people who drive to Barnard Castle to test their eyesight?
