aha *ankerlot the forum intellectual

Well we can all agree on one thing being an Intellectual is not something you will ever be accused of.

If you have an anti expert opinion that's fine but have you ever answered a query on these forums based on your skills and experience?

Further falls for the pound due to Brexit

Your quote says:

The pound continued to lose ground against the Dollar and the Euro......

But the figures say:
-0.1% sterling dollar
+0.06% sterling euro

So 1up 1down and hardly enough to call a reaction, more like a gnat sneezing

The pound and euro are doing well against the dollar - the dollar is weak.

I don't follow the logic but the pound crashed against both after the referendum but now it it is remaining low against the euro but is quite high against the dollar.
That must mean that the euro is doing exceptionally well against the dollar.

If only the pound was back at 1.40 euro, it would be at 1.70 dollar.

Either way, it is, of course, bad for Britain.

Free movement means free movement and open borders. Like there is now.

Controlled borders means you check passports and imported goods.

Can't be simpler and less vague than that.

Theresa has said she doesn't want foreigners being able to freely enter the UK. So she wants passport and immigration controls. So she doesn't want open borders.

When you say "on the UK border" you mean on the NI border with IE, obviously, since NI is part of the UK. You say "hopefully" so you want a controlled NI:IE border, and a controlled GB:IE border, with passport control and customs checks. Simple enough.
Since Irish Partition there has been a common travel area between the UK and Ireland even though the economies North and South were completely separate with different currencies , tax rates and laws ect yet people could travel freely ,this was before the EU was even thought of.
The only reason that a physical presence will be required on the border will be if the Southern government tries to use the IRA as a proxy to destabilise N.Ireland.

The only reason that a physical presence will be required on the border will be......
.....because Ireland wants to be a part of the EU and have agreed to the cross-border rules governing movement of goods and people.(y)

NI also voted to remain in EU. It is only the DUP that is pushing for NI to exit from EU, contrary to the election result.
Or was that what you were referring to?

N.I. voted for the UK to remain in the EU ,there is a difference you know, N.I. still inside the EU while the rest of the UK was outside would destroy the economy as most of N.I. trade is with the UK.

What rules are they, as I said there has always been a common travel area between North and South and that will continue whether inside or outside the EU ,the only people who will be inconvenienced will be illegal immigrants and foreigners.

N.I. voted for the UK to remain in the EU

If the UK leaves the EU, all parts of the UK will leave. This includes people and districts that would rather stay.

If those people or districts decide to leave the UK, they will no longer be bound to leave the EU. This may take considerable time and effort, though, and they may or may not decide to take this step.

It's sad that all this time after the Brexiteers' campaign, they have never got round to admitting the NI problem, and have no solution to offer.

the only people who will be inconvenienced will be illegal immigrants and foreigners.

And smugglers and gangsters, of course.

But in order to identify and inconvenience these people and goods, there would have to be immigration and customs controls at the border.

So a controlled border, not an open one.

Which do you want? Pick one (only one).

You mean there has been freedom of movement between Britain and a foreign country, ROI, before the EU - allowing immigrants and cheap labour to flood in. Goodness, where will it end?
Out of interest, do Brexiters want this to be stopped?

You've probably forgotten about the Treaty of Windsor 1387 which has, since then, allowed the same between Britain and Portugal.
