I think Guy Gibson was a product of his time, ( he was born in India when the British empire was still in its zenith) but I'm sure he would have the intelligence to move with the times and not insist that what is acceptable then must be acceptable now.

Given Guy Gibson's intolerant political and social views, I think the RAF have acted properly to remove the racist slur employed by Guy Gibson in the naming his dog.

There isn't any latent racism left over from people enslaving their own kind.
I repeat, racism was created by white men to justify the subjugation of Africans.

Because an African captures and sells his own countrymen, he's not guilty of racism, he did not invent racism to justify his actions. He was just another criminal, (by today's standards, and probably by standards of that time).
