We'll never be in the US or Russian league. We don't need to be.We need to get ourselves in the game.
Trump is backing Russia, Zelensky has no where to go without America's backing. That's the sad truth about it.They expect Zelensky to take a deal. If it does, as in Zelensky does summin else, and war is escalated,
eh?The US has to make Putin a frenemy in my mind because the bloke cannot be handled in any other way.
Trump is the one escalating the conflict by effectively surrendering to Putin before negotiations even beginYip. I spoke about how our military has been run down under both previous Con and Lab administrations. Ukraine is squeezed into a corner, they clearly don't foresee full scale war occurring imminently. They expect Zelensky to take a deal. If it does, as in Zelensky does summin else, and war is escalated, National Service will be brought in at a moments notice I suspect.
Do you think you have a grasp on geopolitics and war?Irrelevant when handing out mineral rights. Trump should be told to do one.
Much more than Trump has.Do you think you have a grasp on geopolitics and war?
Do you think you have a grasp on geopolitics and war?
I wasn't talking to you.I would never claim that. But I have some understanding of fairness and decency. Do you think an ally should be treated more harshly than Germany was at Versailles. Do you think an ally should have to repay five times the amount they borrowed. Because, according to the Telegraph, that is the deal which Zelensky was asked to sign.
Trump's method of "negotiating" in public is disgraceful. He has no sense of right or wrong and just says the first thing that comes into his mind. It's a shocking way to treat Zelensky and the Ukrainian people..I would never claim that. But I have some understanding of fairness and decency. Do you think an ally should be treated more harshly than Germany was at Versailles. Do you think an ally should have to repay five times the amount they borrowed. Because, according to the Telegraph, that is the deal which Zelensky was asked to sign.
We need to get ourselves in the game. Ex top military guy on QT last night said UK, over past 30 years (so under both political parties), has depleted our defences and spent the cash elsewhere.
Now we, and EU countries, have been caught napping and we'll have to play catch up and quick.
Meanwhile, we have Starmer et al. saying 'we're committed to looking at an increase to 2.5%' or whatever. When? After how many years? Will there be a task force set up to look at this? Delivering a report in 2030 about whether or not 2.5% is achievable?
Joke, complete joke.
If he doesn't agree and Russia walk all over Ukraine guess who gets the minerals.Either Zelensky takes the deal or the war is escalated.
No it's not. I was in part being sarcastic on the % front. We should be upping it to at least 3% and whatever that means re increased tax take, so be it. The potential consequences of leaving ourselves exposed in years/decades to come don't bear thinking about. Is 2.5% enough. That's only £5 billion more than we are spending already. During the Cold War we spent 4%. Poland is spending almost 4%.
If Germany, France and the UK all spent 2.5% that might be enough. But Germany really don't seem up for it. Maybe that will change after the election.
Chamberlain !There is nothing that anyone can do. I just don’t see all of the fuss being made. Trump is in power and that’s it. Just let him get on with it because it cannot be changed now.
