Then ask yourself how long it has been like this. Also note who has made some gains.

Look up the definition of Proxy war.
Ukraine could not survive without support from the EU and USA.
Rather than fighting Russia themselves NATO countries are using Ukraine as a battering ram to bring down the Russian state.
NATO could go head to head with Russia, but it could turn nuclear and that would damage Europe a lot more than Russia.
The EU is a densely populated and highly centralised state in relatively small geographic area.
A mass nuclear attack on European cities would be devastating.
Russia is huge country with a large rural population widely dispersed.
Why do you think the Americans dropped their atomic bombs on civilians in cities rather than targeting the huge Japanese military? .
Why didn't the Americans use Atomic weapons against the Chinese army in Korea.?
It is not a proxy war
The West do not want this war, they did not instigate it, they don’t want it continued.

The West have been constantly reluctant to supply or escalate the war, they’ve only ever provided sufficient for a stalemate not a win….you might claim that’s policy to grind down Russian army, buts it’s simply what the politicians consider acceptable to the electorate.

BTW Your argument on geography is bolox, if bombs were dropped on Moscow and St Petersburg- that’s 10% of the population, that would be the end of Russia. Meanwhile there are dozens and dozens of European and American cities. Putin isn’t stupid, nuclear would be the end of Russia.

some basic facts:

March 2022 Russia occupied 161,000 sq KMs of Ukraine
Dec 2022 Russia occupied 99,000 sw KMs of Ukraine

in 2023 Russia has gained about 400 sq KMs and Ukraine about 150sw kms

In other words, land wise it’s been a stalemate for a year

That's what I have been pointing out. The main Ukraine gain was a Russian withdrawal. Much like what is mentioned now - more defensible.

Troop losses - rather tricky as neither side is likely to be honest and some will weight it Russian as they have all along. Some ideas

Proxy war. In a sense yes, A civil war initially with interference from more major powers. Fact is some Ukrainians wanted to be Russian. Similar situations have happened before.

Average casualties rate for the Russians is approx 300 per day

As for the Ukrainians ?? Probably similar

Depends if you factor in civilian deaths ??

Russia describes the landing ship Novocherkassk as "damaged"

I don't know how badly, but it seems to have turned into a submarine.

Before After

the level of Russian hypocrisy is unreal, Russia has just targeted Ukrainian civilians with a $1billion worth of missiles and here they are moaning:

Russia accused Ukraine of having targeted civilians in the city of Belgorod with missiles and rockets, killing at least 18 people and wounding dozens more.

Reports suggest that support for the war in Russia amongst ordinary Russians is waning ???

Such is poo tins paranoia that two people have been jailed for 7 years for reading out anti war poems ??

That leaves 90% of the population intact.
BTW,in the past, the Russians have burned down Moscow themselves.

In the event of possible nuclear war, the population would most likely evacuate as Moscow would be an obvious target.

The Russians will probably have contingency plans for such an eventuality.
Let's hope it never comes to that.

According to some sources, these civilian targets hit by Russian missiles , were actually housing Nato advisors and intelligence services.
It wouldn't be the first time the Ukrainians have been accused of using civilian infrastructure for military purposes.
Of course the Russians could be telling Porkies again.

Meanwhile there are dozens and dozens of European and American cities.
Putin has dozens and dozens of nuclear weapons.
Although you could be right about American cities but Europe would be toast.

according to Russian propaganda sources

Russia is constantly attacked civilian targets throughout the war.

the vast majority of the bombs fired over the last week were on civilian areas

Russia fights a cowardly war, they try and break the spirit of the civilians, they are deliberately targeting power stations etc to try and make Ukrainians freeze in their homes over winter

tell me Vinty, why are you so sympathetic towards Putin?

Putin won’t fire nuclear, he knows it would be the end of Russia forever, it would be utterly destroyed.
