Ukraine counter offensive

"Russia may be forced to rethink its claim that any peace deal must take account of who controls territory on the ground"

FT.com

Goose, sauce, gander.
Russia is rethinking and has withdrawn the deal they previously offered. There are some indications they will be taking odessa. That means they will be joining up with transnistria. There remains no interest on kiev until the next round of escalation.

While Putin advertises for diggers and anyone with a spade to dig trenches in Kursk, there're no truth to the rumour that nutjob is driving a jcb over there to volunteer his services.

More likely putin is after wheat farmers. After taking odessa and expanding out from all taken territories for buffer zones, putin will have control of all of the wheat lands. You will see from the map kiev is not interesting. Do you notice how conveniently transnistria is located?

Only thing Ukrainian forces are planting this year are Russian troops, six feet deep. Every one of 'em with a pocket full of sunflower seeds. Gonna be a bumper harvest next year.
They can plant corn too.

A trail of destruction lies in the path that Ukrainian forces carved on their risky incursion into Russia, blasting through the border and eventually into the town of Sudzha, where Associated Press journalists traveled [on] Friday on a Ukrainian government-organized trip.

But, so far, it has not dented Russia’s overall strategic advantage. Ukrainian officials and soldiers have said diverting Russian reserves from the main battlegrounds in eastern Ukraine is a minimum aim of the Kursk offensive, but Moscow has shown no signs of withdrawing significant numbers of troops from battles there or slowing their tempo.

Does it really take carving to enter an undefended boarder? The place was a deliberate invitation. All the ukrainians can do is hide in the bushes and take potshots at civilians. Even the civilians are sparse before their evacuation. It's not clear how they can resupply the bush huggers. No doubt a few of them will end up like some ww2 japanese soldiers who are still hiding in the jungle and fighting to this day. It's pitiful that nato has ended up like that. I will give them that they have pieced russian red lines with no repercussions, and shutting the russians up. The russians earned it any way by talking too much, and doing too little.
