The Americans were quite prepared to start a nuclear war because the Russians wanted to place missiles in Cuba.

you mean the Americans threatened Russia with nuclear war if they started building a nuclear missile site in reach of America

I think you will find that was Russia being the aggressor that time

as it is this time

Is Putin doing anything that the west hasn't done in the past.

Moral hypocrisy is the wests achilles heel.

Yes and no. In some respects it's like empire retention as older major powers have done years ago now. Thanks to Putin and the bloke before him Russia joined the world after the USSR collapsed. Invasions since may just be like the Ukraine. Some want to be Russian some don't. Chechens fighting on both sides currently probably relates to the same problem. Chechen factions have been regarded as terrorists in the past. I wonder who armed them. Here's one
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moscow_theater_hostage_crisis

Notice the use of "chemicals" and the mention of religion. Chemicals - what to do so try and put everybody to sleep. Not the same as using a nerve agents. So when some say Russia has this may be the instance when they did. I think there was an earlier similar problem but can't find details. I think Ukraine mostly relates to Crimea.

Syria. Looks like the video I linked too wont ever play again. Both sides finished up backing Assad due to ISIL who had taken over rather a lot of the country. When a USA military man says Russia didn't bomb many of them I'm inclined to take no notice but yes Russia did bomb another group, one in particular by the sound of it, Turkmen.

Iraq. No where near as much coverage as on Ukraine but official collateral damage figures are large. Subsequent studies indicate it must have been a lot higher. It seems that China decided to show images of the aftermath there when Ukraine was mentioned. Sounds like it wouldn't have been pretty. Reports say that the early shock and awe didn't achieve much and they still had to fight. Troop losses small - bombs used maybe?? Pass.

Neither of these relate to Ukraine really. The odd thing is that Russia didn't take out obvious targets as soon as things fired up. They have been lately. I'd rather see large scale images of damage not just stuff with maximum impact. It beginning to look like several countries need to agree to achieve anything. USA with it's mighty trading USD, maybe China with it's immense manufacturing ability and Ukraine. Plus Russia of course. It doesn't look good to me and the whole thing may cause strife elsewhere over time.

Nato suggests that the Russians losses could be 14000 ???? Troops ???

vid doing the rounds ??? Of a Russian ship that has been sunk / damaged / taken out in the Black Sea ???

Could well be. The Ukrainian's are fierce fighters and well equipped.

Will search for the ship story, sounds interesting.

Their FB page is cheeky. And looks like a FGM-148 Javelin in action, which we have supplied some (or all?)

Chorine gas does not "put everyone to sleep" it kills then
Who says Russia used that Assad yes but some see the video of one instance that came out as a fake. Pass. Russia has no need of dustbin bombs some of which went bang in the usual way. Poor man's precision missile of sorts. Dropped vertically from a helicopter.

Who says Russia used that

At least one expert on the topic on the TV the other day said so.

Russia went to great lengths to say it was staged and not them. Make of that what you will!

Sound like there may have been a couple of drone assassinations. Bloke sitting in a car in a large car park and mention of an anti putin russian journalist elsewhere but less clear. Shells mentioned but I wonder. The only damage was the car.

N Korea is acting up. A maybe. Trump it seems would negotiate with them. Biden wont so bit of an arms race so ICBM's. A UK pundit's view.

I saw the chemical attack in Syria video. Some group was regularly sending videos to C4. Several things about it made me wonder. It may have been from the group that the USA initially backed who lost as found themselves fighting both Assad's troops and ISIL. Propaganda can take all sorts of forms. Take photo of some one shooting at a cruise missile. A video of it being used would mean something but even those can be faked. C4 also had a number of videos from the west bank. Another illegal invasion.

;) I'll stick to mostly TV info thanks especially with their own cameras. Nothing will provide us with exact info about total intent from all parties.

dollar rouble nb the base is about 75. It's not cripplingly weaker than it was.

I wrote above take out Zelesny and it would be over soon. I was thinking with the Command and Control centres, say of Kyiv, Lviv, Odessa, and places I can't spell. There are about 2 dozen Oblasts, Pootin will know where the admin centres and military comms bases are.
He could do that ths afternoon if he wanted, with cruise missiles and big banger bombs. He can use "battlefield" nukes - there's nothing stopping him. Sleepy Joe wouldn't do anything.

Then he could "settle" for the red bits of the map:

magnanimously allowing the rest of the country to rebuild itself with apuppet government asking the west for aid...?

He's also free to lob some nukes - he has a couple of thousand "medium small" ones.
He can say "Stop fighting me, I'm setting in Ukraine", and detonate one in the N sea as a warning, etc.

" Russia’s atomic war doctrine came to be known as “escalate to de-escalate” — meaning routed troops would fire a nuclear weapon to stun an aggressor into retreat or submission. Moscow repeatedly practiced the tactic in field exercises. In 1999, for instance, a large drill simulated a NATO attack on Kaliningrad, the Russian enclave on the Baltic Sea. The exercise had Russian forces in disarray until Moscow fired nuclear arms at Poland and the United States."

You don't want to push putin into too much of a corner, hun. Putin may trike out with bigger weapons as the man does not care other than for itself and lover and family

A coincidence I suspect. I knew they started pumping money into it a while ago. When he visited them Trump was spouting about the EU buying it and possible strategic problems getting it from Russia. He had 4 leaders sitting in cheap seats lose together walking about wagging his finger.
