You can have the best equipment available but if the will to win isn't there, then you won't win.
The American army in Vietnam didn't have the support of the public back home and without that most soldiers didn't want to be there.

The ukraian leader is making more and more victorious noises and IMO that is not good. What he should be doing is working behind the scenes about getting a ceasefire in place and what land his coutry is prepared to hand over. I've always predicted the crimea and donbas will remain with putin and others areas of donbas putin won in this war. A few weeks ago I felt putin may take almost half of the country up to the river that splits the capital but now i believe putin will keep the crimea, donbas and the parts on the coast between the two regions.

The initial ceasefire will have breaches but lets hope it lasts after that and i still believe un forces from possibly turkey and india in the east of the country i the longer term way forward

and he has to encourage his allies. They must not fall into despair of thinking that Ukraine is a lost cause and that it must give in to the invader.

This talk of Ukrainians rolling over and giving up anything to the Russians after what they have done is sickening to me. Let's not be kidded, this entire invasion has been an utter disaster for Russia, they've lost thousands of soldiers, hundreds of tanks, their country is a pariah and heading for economic ruin, China has chosen the wrong side and Putin has been reduced to an isolated despot.

Ukraine should give up nothing and to give up anything signals to the Russians and Chinese that this strategy of boldly opposing NATO works and that they can act with impunity. This war is much bigger than Ukraine, this war is the potential tipping point of global power from West to East and we need to be hyper-aware of this.

As and aside. Saudi not happy with the USA. Seems they have taken a Yemen group off the terrorist list and being slow sending them more missile defence stuff. Then comes an attack on an oil facility and other places via a drone attack according to reports. I had heard that the entire Arab area is a bit cheesed off with the USA. Not Qatar though. Strange place as far as the population is concerned.

Better description of Phase 1 from Russia. End of the winter aspect. Mud comes next so little or no advances just more of what they have been doing lately and cleaning up in areas they control. Come May the mud is over and things continue. They were asked why announce what they are going to do, no clear answer. I'd suspect it's to help with negotiations. They expect Ukraine to field a lot of quickly trained soldiers. Mud gives then time to do that. Pass but given time to prepare those may find they have Russia's problem - having to attack well defended positions to achieve anything. A siege in other words. The USA seems to figure strongly in the needed negotiations.I doubt if either side can back down.

Biden is beginning to sound like an old hawk and wants to bring China into the conversation. This sounds like the beginning of another Russia type problem to me. A large resource rich country. Analysts have reckoned that they will top the USA eventually. Actually in some ways they may have already. They just appear to not get so much involved in world affairs than they did in their early Red Army type days.
