No, I think you are twisting yourself in your own words.

Why am I so interested? I have experienced how inherent homophobia can affect people. On one occasion this has ended in a death from depression and drug-taking. Another occasion on a violent death. Another occasion the homosexual being violent to members of his own family even though they weren't homophobic, but he was taking his frustrations out about society on them. That's why I am interested. Homophobia causes pain.

not665 whilst I appreciate you are fishing for a reaction I am comfortable enough with my own emotions to feel happy that I have a fairly balanced view of life in general.
I have already stated previously that I am against persecution of anyone for any reason so really feel that your homophobic claims against me are somewhat unfounded to say the least. Fortunately i also don't care enough about anonymous comments on a forum to be bothered by your words.

Just because I do not personally find someone's homosexual feelings normal does not mean I want to stop or change others in any way. Each persons definition of normal or natural is different and personal to them.

Live and let live. I would suggest you do the same as arguments like yours do more damage than good, Pick your arguments more carefully with the more clearly homophobic people who would beat someone up for their sexuality or the racists who do the same for the colour of someones skin

Why, if it is quite normal, is the word homosexual not used? Why hide behind euphemisms whilst corrupting the English language at the same time?

Actually, this one has bitten me before...

Nowadays, anyone under the age of say, 80 knows that the word "gay" can mean a homosexual. Unless they are a retired colonel who writes to the Daily Mail to say "gay is a perfectly good word to mean bright or happy"

The word gay was itself adopted by the gay community because there were no positive-sounding words for "homosexual". Would you want to be described as "queer"? It's not the nicest sounding of words. But "gay" is a happy word.

It seems to have gone some way towards full circle. The LGB society at my uni was called "Imperial Queers", for example!

However, I have been told off for using the word "gay" to mean "rubbish". As in "You lost your wallet? That's gay" or "Could you just shut up and stop being gay for a minute?", or "these new tax regulations are gay".

It is quite common amongst those of my generation to use this word in such a manner. But I have been told off on more than one occasion by, in all cases, heterosexual girls for my "misuse" of the word.

I don't think it is offensive.

Yeah, another example is the word 'apple'. In medieval times it used to used to mean fruit in general, but now it is specific.

As an aside, my understanding is that anyone can have a civil partnership, and that is just the gay aspect that is hitting the headlines, so it must apply to heterosexual couples as well. So, is there any advantage for people to have a civil partnership rather than a marriage ? Also, do you still need to get divorced, and can you have a marriage and a civil partnership on the go at once ? Could you have a hetero-marriage and a gay-civil partnership on the go at once ?

So many questions. Just interested, not planning on any of the above, you understand.......
