Unwell Fluke 1652

Don't think about that too much - you might start to agree with my opinion of how many companies treat their customers with contempt.
Particularly if viewed as a general statement, I have never disagreed with your opinion - so I don't have to "start to agree".

Plenty of playing since I last wrote, but nothing particularly positive or interesting to report.

A good few places other than Fluke claim to repair these things. Unless they are lying, I would think that they must have at least a circuit diagram but, try as I may, I cannot find any source of a service manual, or even just a circuit diagram. Fluke do a "Calibration Manual" but that doesn't really help. It even tells one how to test whether the 'lead detection' functionality is working correctly, but makes no suggestions as to what one should do if it isn't!

Has anyone got any idea as to where else I might look in search of a circuit diagram? I suppose a cheeky approach would be to approach one of the alleged third-party repairers - but their probable response is so predictable that I'm not sure it's even worth trying!

I was in the wholesalers friday and there was a fluke rep there, unfortunately I could not remember your model number and he seemed really busy, otherwise I would have asked him.
We take our gear to a place in romford though they charge 20 pound to look, then sometimes send somewhere else and they charge a further 100 pound, so could be 120 pound to be told its knackered.
Unfortunately I dont know them well enough to get a drawing, though I will make a few enquires though no guarantees.

Thanks. That's very kind of you - I look forward to hearing anything you discover! [It's a Fluke 1652]

If these third parties really do repair test gear (rather than just charging a substantial amount for telling people that there item is not repairable!), I would think that they must at least have a circuit diagram - so they must exist somewhere (other than just in Fluke's filing cabinet).

I have been hoping to find (e.g. on eBay) a 'not working' one whose problem was a failed display (which I imagine happens). It would be a gamble, but since mine appears to have a normally functioning display (i.e. front panel) and display board, it would probably be a gamble worth taking. However, I have not found any like that yet.

Other makes are available.
They are indeed.

I can't blame increasing age for this, since it's really always been the case, but I am exceedingly, and often irrationally, "resistant to change'! I've used Fluke MFTs for many years, and therefore my strong inclination to to get another to replace my seemingly 'non-repairable' one.

One advantage of getting a machine which is identical to my current one is, of course, that I would have a good few 'spares' - as far as I can make out, the front panel/display and display board are fine, not to mention the case, battery holder and umpteen leads (although the latter might well be OK with other makes).

I've so far bid (in the last 30 seconds, of course - I don't understand why anyone bids earlier!) for a couple of Fluke 1652s, but both have sold for appreciably more than I really want to pay. I therefore wonder if you, or anyone else, would like to make any suggestions as to what other makes/models with similar specs (just a very basic MFT) I perhaps should be considering looking at?

Kind Regards, John

No MFTs at the moment, but a Completed Listings search shows recent ones. Or you could go for a set of 3 separates.
I wouldn't want separates.

Perhaps I wasn't clear enough, but I was actually asking for suggestions/recommendations as to what makes/models I might consider as an alternative to my Fluke 1562, not where I could find suppliers of used ones.

Kind Regards, John

That was what I gave you.
I don't really understand. I'm well aware of many of the alternative makes, and know a reasonable amount about what models some of them produce - but looking at a pile of completed eBay listings does not really amount to my receiving the advice/recommendations I was hoping for. ... or am I misunderstanding you?

Kind Regards, John

No I would not.

I used to think I would.

I used to think I would like to recommend a particular make.

I even, in a moment of what now turns out to have been obvious delusion, thought I had.

Fortunately you did not join in the delusion, so no harm done, and I can forget about making any suggestions, and I can Unwatch this thread.

It probably comes as no surprise to you that the make to which you linked is totally unfamiliar to me. Whilst I presume that you were 'recommending it', without at least some comments I really am in no position to making any assessment just by seeing completed eBay listings for it.

Perhaps others can tell me about their experiences with this product?

As some of you may have seen, perhaps somewhat surprisingly, BAS has seemingly recommended a Chinese-branded (Beha Electronics) MFT - I think the Unisys Telaris 0100 Plus, and I wonder if anyone has any experience of this make or product.

It seems that this product is no longer manufactured, so I'm not sure what the 'new price' is/was, but it seems that they are available pretty cheaply second-hand. Some of the reviews I've seen are not brilliant, quite a few complaining about the lack of instructions and very poor support, although I haven't yet seen any suggesting that it doesn't function satisfactorily. It appears to have most of the functionality one would expect of a basic MFT, although, as I understand it, some of the ranges might not be ideal. One of my concerns would be the (small) physical size, given the inevitable presence of some components that would generate appreciable heat during use.

Any thoughts or experience?

It' not been a week yet. Are you in a hurry?
No, not particularly. I just wondered whether I was being unnecessarily narrow-minded in only looking for a 'like for like' replacement of my 1652 (despite the reasons I gave for favouring that approach) - and I was rather surprised by the alternative that BAS seemed to be recommending.

I continue to watch, and bid on, 1652s, but I was hoping/expecting not to have to pay more than about £200 - and so far that has proved to be over-optimistic! However, I continue!

I bought a Kewtech KT63 via an auction site 2 years ago for £175. It was one of those late night bids where I knew I didn't need one, but my garage wiring was never tested so I had a reason to get a new toy. And it would obviously come in handy if I ever did need one. I had a bit of fun with it checking the garage wiring, Zs readings all over the house, polarity checks and making sure RCD's will trip etc. According to the certificate it was manufactured 05/11/2013 so was 18 months old. The seller hadn't helped himself as he was honest about the scratches and missing clasp on the case/box, but failed to mention how much the MFT inside the box looked (and still does look) completely unused. The protective film still hasn't been peeled off the LCD.

So the main point of this post is to say keep watching as there are bargains out there.

At a risk of breaking forum rules, If I had any sense I should sell it on. It's now getting on for 4 year old and it will just stay in the cupboard unless I get rid. I am scared of selling through Ebay though.
