War Is Brewing.

There's a very real prospect that by this time next week we will once again be sending our troops off to fight in a war that has very little to do with what you think it does.

Before you all turn into masters of Russian politics, professors of east european history & suddenly develop a 4* Generals knowledge of battle tactics, I'd just like you to remember that you heard this here first.

Biden is good, Putin is bad.
Not quite here first

Wouldn't be the first time the intelligence agencies told lies.
Then isn't the government responsible for mis-naming the agency?
They should have called it the 'Public Enlightenment Agency'.
Creating a Propaganda Ministry
Creating a Propaganda Ministry was a novel idea for a country at peace. Governmental propaganda organizations had tended to be temporary committees necessitated by war or disguised as ministries of information.

well at least the UK is doing some thing about it

flogging anti tank missiles to the Ukraine

dunno what the germans are doing ? probably nowt

the French scoundrels are probably selling arms to the russians and Ukraine ;):sneaky::sneaky:

There'll be no winners in a proper war with Russia.

They still have 3 Tsar Bombas. 1 would likely be enough to kill everybody in the South East. They have around 6,800 nuclear weapons. Their tank army is about 6 times bigger than ours, Navy 5 times bigger. We wouldn't stand a chance, and nobody would be in a position to protect us other than the US, and that would put us at risk of nuclear strike.

So, we'll do what we did the last time Russia annexed Crimea in 2014 - nothing.

To their enemies - all the time. Not so much when you are briefing the boss. To actually believe Putin over anyone is incomprehensible. But to side with him over your own intelligence agency would be laughable if it weren't for the fact Trump said it with a straight face.

They make a good couple.

there is nowt in it for Sam , apart from arms sales ?

the point is the americans are nato , so an attack on us is an attack on all

in any event the only country that has stood up to the Russians recently is the Turks , in syria and downing one of putins jet fighters
Putin did nowt because the turks are in Nato

Glad that some know Kennedy's victory over the Cuban crisis is a myth. The Russians wont mind it being seen like that as they are aware that politicians every where have the same problems.

It's getting pretty clear that no one will send troops to the Ukraine - only advisors. It's also clear that USA diplomats are running about all over the place beating their tom toms and probably trying to use leverage to get other countries to agree with their foreign policy. Iran was a good example of that as Europe did not want sanctions. The USA are saying might do this might do that, lately just a small part of the Ukraine probably as they see it as having strategic implications for Russia.

One thing that influences sanctions
External balance on goods and services (formerly resource balance) equals exports of goods and services minus imports of goods and services (previously nonfactor services). Data are in current U.S. dollars.
Russia trade balance for 2020 was $73.63B, a 42.8% decline from 2019.

  • Russia trade balance for 2019 was $128.73B, a 22.37% decline from 2018.
  • Russia trade balance for 2018 was $165.83B, a 98.56% increase from 2017.
  • Russia trade balance for 2017 was $83.52B, a 26.01% increase from 2016.
Those are surpluses. It was 20b in December. Expect them to be happy? The main reason for the break up of the Soviet Block was the cost of running it. Interesting fact, A not unusual bleat from what was seen as the wrong side of the famous wall. I had somewhere to live, a job and a pension to look forwards too. Now I have nothing.

Perhaps the most serious risk of trouble is Putin calling the bluff on MAD, Both sides could clearly wipe each other out and it wouldn't take much to wipe us out as well. Very little actually.

Latest is Russia playing war games in the sea. Troop manoeuvrers 120 odd miles from the Ukraine border is also a form of war games. All countries have them from time to time. Well not all, we take part at times, The USA's dogs who generally always come to heal.
