It would appear they are trying too hard or not trying hard enough. Not sure which to be honest. Makes Spoons look good though.

Must be portion control and making it look like there's more on the plate than there is. Don't like it when places mess around with the food. Chips in a small bowl/basket on the plate? First thing I do is turn them out onto the plate. At least meals in a basket seem less popular. Not good having to eat a meal that has stuck itself to the serviette in bottom of basket is always a bonus.

Not one of the high points of the 70s for me. Most enjoyable meals out were usually in a Berni Inn. Though I was too young for the schooner of sherry.

Dark brown sherry, sweet and syrupy, was considered an old lady's drink.

I found out later that "Croft Original" was designed to appeal to people who like a sweet sherry but wished to be seen as posh and sophisticated, drinking a pale sherry.

I remember our local offy had a barrel of Emva Cream? on the counter, you took your own container to fill up, cheap sherry was also popular with some young geezers pre loading before a night out
