What have you been doing today?

I decided to begin cherry picking season today after watching squirrel pinching a ripe, juicy snack from a low hanging branch. The fizzin' tree rat hung upside down, sniffed out the ripest and was away quick-as-spit. Not far. Oh No! he had the brass neck to sit on the path nearby and casually nibble his way round the stone before scampering away in search of more delicacies.

It's now a race between me, squirrel, blackbird and thrush to see who gets most...all i want is enough for a jar or two of jam. The raspberries will go in the fridge to top off my breakfast tomorrow.:p

Just picked the last of my Stella cherries. Good crop this year, and luckily no nearby squirrels. Birds don't seem interested.

Been over the allotment this morning, got some help to lift off my brassica mesh tunnels and trimmed off all bar the 10 or so upper leaves from my sprouts. They can put their energy into the sprouts instead of the leaves! Also trimmed up the lower leaves on my cabbages and cauli's. I kept a beady eye open so that I didn’t let any cabbage whites settle on them before putting the netting back on!

Took my mum up for her 4th covid jab. Asked if they had a spare for me but no luck.

Currently watching the Silverstone qualifying - sunny here but it’s lashing down up there!

It was the quiz bit, silly. About time you breathed some life back into it - seems to have gone all quiet on that front lately. Yes? No? Yes? No?

There's old TV ads education laughter and hole lot of other fun.

You live in a squirrel-free zone and the birds don't have a sweet tooth? Lucky you. What plans do you have for your cherries?

It's not a full size tree. Only about 10 feet high, so we were eating them as they ripened. Guessing you have full size tree and too many cherries to eat. What do you do with the surplus?

try a Clafoutis. Very easy even if you can't bake.

serve hot with custard or cream, or cold.

I think i posted a snap of the tree in blossom this spring but it's a mini-tree, limited to 3m high. I'm not so nimble climbing trees these days.:(
I usually get a couple of pounds to use for jam. Had to gather a big bowl full yesterday morning as blackbird was very persistent, some not quite ripe but they'll all go in the pot later this month.
