My ordered replacement pair of front tyres failed to arrive, so I slapped new tubes in and got on with cutting the now quite long grass. Then Avril suggested we ought to try cutting down an old 20" silver birch stump which she said was in her way [1]. Three years ago, a tree came down, offered it free for fuel, if anyone wanted to come and cut it up, and I had no takers, so I bought a chain saw, as the cheap option to get rid of it. Just used it the once, until today, so decided to see if it would start, still on old fuel remaining....

It didn't. Plug was wet, and clothes peg type spring in the plug cap, didn't seem quite right, and plug gap wrong too, so sorted those out, and to my surprise, if fired right up first pull. Very obviously low on fuel, it did just manage to cut the stump down, and into small enough pieces to dispose of easily. I'd forgotten just how easily it cut down timber, I quite enjoyed it.

[1] She's busy doing a Charlie Dimmock impression, remodelling the garden.

Oh forgot, I also replaced the hot tap cartridge at the kitchen sink, for the third or fourth time over recent years. It is a conventional gravity system, using a rubber tap washer. It was still working, but was beginning to feel 'uncertain' in it's action, so I just swapped it for a new one, and refurbed the original ready for next time. Never a problem with the cold.

People watching. There’s some funny sorts staying here. One bloke, about 60 years old is holidaying with his mum who must be in her 80’s. He is a bit of an arse and quite rude to the waiting staff - tonight he was on a table next to us and he kept sending them away as he wasn’t ready to order. At one point he told them to go away and give him 15 minutes but this evening he asked his mother if she wanted a glass of wine and when she said she did, he called a waiter over and got him to poor his mum a glass of wine from a bottle of wine that was right next to him! She wasn’t the least bit perturbed by his behaviour - how could a mum sit there and let her son treat waiting staff like that - she must be just as bad. Mrs Mottie says it’s no surprise he only has his mum to go on holiday with!

Renewed the MILs house insurance by phone after the usual rigmarole Mrs CB asked for the paperwork to be mailed to us, as we are away and post has a habit of disappearing, the guy altered the mailing address and that resulted in a new quote which was less than the original!!

He ordered the main meals tonight and when they came up, he told the waitress he wasn’t ready for them. She took the meals back off the table, passed them on to the Maitre D who took them straight back to him and politely told him he would not be getting fresh meals cooked, so the choice was have it now or they would try to keep it warm but with no guarantees. He decided to take them. :ROFLMAO:

I used to tell the brighter ones amongst the shop floor staff of PC Worlds to give rude, aggressive &/or obstroperous customers as good as they gave. Fair play to that Maitre 'D'.

A couple of days ago, Avril spotted what looked like a new bike, thrown over the metal railway fence, alongside the bridge over the railway. She's always finding, or spotting something - happens nearly everytime she goes out. It was sort of lodged on the bramble, high on the banking. I had her take a photo of it, posted it on local FB, to see if anyone knew who the owner was, rang 101 this afternoon. 101 suggested they were not interested in stopping the mainline trains whilst it was recovered, despite my suggesting it could be recovered with a rope and grapple, but did suggest getting on with it then hand it in to the police station 15 miles away - I should coco.

So this evening, we walked round there with a hook, a long rope, a 3m stick and some duct tape. It's quite a busy bridge with road traffic, and people walking past - several passers-by stopped to offer help, it was quite a struggle to pull it out of the growth, but we managed it eventually.

It is almost new, and in good condition, though abused. Tyres new, fully inflated, the only thing wrong with it, is the handbar brake lever arms are broken off, the levers are combined with the Shimano gear shifts.

I will pass the details to the police, make, model, frame number, unlikely to be claimed, but it's a girls bike, just right for Avril.

Despite visiting Spain dozens of times, last night for the first time I saw a Flamenco dancer. 'Twas different but I wouldn’t want to be living in the flat below her.

Waved bye bye to the grandkids on Sunday after a few weeks that I'm sure they'll never forget . . .

How long will it be before I stop checking on 'em at night???

You told us you had them dumped on you on 2nd August for two weeks. What happened there Dork - did all your offspring get caught in the wildfires and have trouble getting back home?

Last full day in Menorca today and I’m in the doghouse with Mrs Mottie. My crime: I took a couple of bananas from the breakfast buffet when we left! According to her, that’s stealing. She'll thank me tomorrow morning when we have to leave before the restaurant is even open.

Learning something new :giggle: I'm watching a TV show set in Los Angeles and in one shot there are snow covered mountains in the background. I'd had absolutely no idea before that they were there. Apparently, there are several peaks around 10,000 feet where you can ski in winter.
