What have you been doing today?

The docs this morning for blood samples for both the kidney hospital phone appointment, plus the surgery itself, before the pharmacist will represcribe my existing meds. Why do they never think to warn you, to bring along a urine sample? So the one trip, turned in to two Grrr!

Then the Breville 4 slice toaster has been failing to latch down on 2 of the most used double slots, so I pulled that apart to take a look see. It turned out to be the then pressed steel arm which you press, so it can latch, was bending and not moving the rack down far enough to actually latch.

It uses an electronic timer system, and a solenoid latch system. I gave up on it today, and reassembled it, due to the need to take the sample in to the docs., but at least now I know the cause, and what need fixing to correct it.

Learning something new :giggle: I'm watching a TV show set in Los Angeles and in one shot there are snow covered mountains in the background. I'd had absolutely no idea before that they were there. Apparently, there are several peaks around 10,000 feet where you can ski in winter.

Here's a photo. BTW, the show is The Lincoln Lawyer S2. IMO, nowhere near as good as S1. About to give up.

That's the Sierra Nevada, isn't it? Have you heard the famous tale of The Donner Party' who tried to cross during winter in the 19th century? Grisly business. It's where the donner kebab was invented, y'know.:sneaky:

Travelled in a day from the desert of Death Valley into the SN which was a bit of a shock to the system.

Done me back in moving a wheelbarrow full of sand today, so feet up after a long soak in a radox bath.
What a drag it is getting old . :(

Sitting in the No1 lounge at Gatwick waiting for our flight. Sorry, did I say lounge? I meant café. It’s a proper shîthole, I’m just glad I didn’t pay to get in here. I’ve been in better, cleaner cafes serving much better, fresher food.
Came home today. The lounge at Mahon airport was 10 times better. Got a few looks though when I made Mrs Mottie and I a Bucks Fizz. I had to open a fresh bottle of fizz but as soon as I had untwisted the wire, the cork started to make its own way out - I think some joker behind the counter may have given it a bit of a shake. I tried to release it slowly and get just a hiss but I got a bloody big 'POP’ and a little bit of spray! Well, it was only 8.30 but you’d be surprised at the number of people knocking back the scotch, Gin, Vodka etc at that early hour. Anyway, I’ve come to the conclusion that every 'lounge' that I’ve been in in the U.K. is barely comparable with a canteen - Gatwick, Luton, Southend and Stansted. All the foreign ones I’ve been in, while not comparable with an airline lounge, have been a lot better.

Went round our friends to pick up Susie - she'd had a week with her friends and family and they were all glad to see us! Being the one of the oldest, she has seniority amongst the pack now and our friend told us she was the one who kept the young ones in order when the play fighting got out of order - a well placed growl and they got the message that enough was enough! :ROFLMAO:

A quick dash over the plot tonight to chuck some water about and a week’s absence from the plot seems to have resulted in a month of weed growth. Bloody things grow better than vegetables and need no looking after. If only you could make weed wine - I'd be a happy man!

Been with the wife all day who is stressed about having visitors this weekend - So I'm even more stressed out
. She said she wanted a hand this morning to turn a mattress, waited in all morning wasting daylight hours, finally turned the mattress the afternoon (Arrrgggghhhhh). Then the 3 year 1 week old kettle stopped working - the switch components broke. Had to fetch a new kettle but of course the power lead isn't long enough and the base is a new different size so then had to change that over after I'd found my way into the base (3 screws, 5 clips).
Finally at 4PM was able to visit the repairs to the lawnmower - finished with a bodge at 8PM. Needs new screws and drive belt - but before I can change that I have to get the blade off - Now is the retaining bolt left hand or right hand thread cause I can't make the bolt move in either direction.

Spent time today sorting out my fave:

Insurance. Car for my Mum and house for my step-mum.

Mum does less than 1K per annum, paid around 590 last year and this year the quote was 850.

Did some comparisons and the best was 1350.....

I think age is against her. She's coming 87.

My step-mum is going away. She talked to her house insurance co and they said they only allow premises to be vacant up to 30 days. She is going to be away longer.

So what do they do?

Cancel the policy on the day she flies out!

Surely that's wrong?

If they must cancel it, surely they should have given her the 30 days?

They really get on my t!ts, insurance companies.

Isn’t it 30 days at a time? Can’t she arrange for someone to stay over on day 29 and then start another 30 day period?

I've got a massive craving for a donner kebab now.

Guess she could have done that. But she's in Oz now and the policy is cancelled, so I need to sort sumfink out rapido...

I hear many of the VIP lounges in airports from the midlands and upwards consist of a counter with black pudding sandwiches and tea from a flask with a comprehensive selection of magazines such as flat cap and whippet monthly.
