What have you been doing today?

I went with my son to the F1 exhibition at the Excel. Bloody fantastic. Very interesting from a historic as well as a mechanical viewpoint. I saw Grosjean's Haas - what a mess that was!

Last minute packing for red eye 7.30 am flight tomorrow to Prague. After arriving, get into town and 4 hrs on train to Karvina near Ostrava on the CZ/Polish border. 4 nights there visiting friends, poss into Ostrava for couple of nights out. Then back to Prague for 4 nights of wine (beer), women (at my age!!!) and song. Plenty of walking, lazing around in pubs reading the paper and some great restaurants in evening, especially Mex, Thai and Greek.

Then almost Xmas when I get back.

Sounds good. Enjoy. (y)

Getting the Xmas decorations out of the loft. Helping to decorate the tree. Hanging the outside lights under the close supervision of Mrs Mottie, ensuring that the gutter clips are equally spaced!

Mrs Mottie and I went to our Grandsons nativity play. Very small school in a village near Ingatestone. Only 8 in his class!

When we got home, I put the kettle on and as I was waiting for it to boil, I saw a magpie swoop down very quickly at the end of the garden and go under the bench. It came out seconds later with a mouse in its beak and flew up onto my roof. I went to the bottom of the garden and looked up and it was ripping it apart and eating it. Yuk!

You gotta wonder about the logistics of a school with classes that small, it's not exactly great value from the public purse point of view. Sure the kids (presumably) get a good education (attention) given the teacher/assistant's vs student ratio but that kind of stuff just doesn't make sense. Time they sold that old school of to turn into some luxury apartments.

Plenty like that in Cornwall. What's the alternative?

It's a C of E school. Don't know if that is funded differently from others. Gets top marks for reading though - our grandson is excellent at reading - for infant schools it is 1st in Essex and 5th in the country overall out of 22,000 schools apparently.

Anyway, our son and his wife are more concerned with the education of their child than the value from the public purse. Who wouldn’t?
