What have you bought today?

Just about every supermarket/store does the same nowdays so why not just go with the flow, I do - I don’t carry cards with me but I have all the cards in an app on my phone, it really isn’t a problem and takes just seconds to scan your card in store. Out of interest, whats the problem with it from your point of view?

Before, I could never be a##ed with cards and discounts, but tried it myself, just last week. Avril always uses the cards...

For a few weeks we have planned to do a Tuesday shop in Iceland, with 10% for the over 60's, but make it a bulk shop, and get the free delivery. The bulk shop, and the 10% discount went to plan, but not the free delivery. On the way in, we'd checked about it, and told the driver was off for the day, but do the shop, tell them at the till, and they will put it in storage for delivery next day. Once at the till with out bulk shop, we were told they couldn't store for delivery next day. We ended up struggling home with it on the bus, an hour's journey.

I emailed Iceland about the issue, and they are trying to sort it out at the moment.

The prices "without the card" are being artificially raised so high to force you to get a card.

I think I'd rather stick with Aldi at their discount prices.
True, however Aldi food is generally crap and plenty of the branded products are subtly smaller, same for Lidl and Poundland etc. That said, all of the supermarkets are good for a few things, there's not one that's best overall though.

Bastards!
Just logged on to Nectar to see this weeks special offers. As of Friday, I had over Seventy seven quids worth of nectar points. As of today, I’ve got…..40p!

Phoned up Nectar to find out where it’s gone. They asked me if I had anyone else on my account and I told them my wife was on it - they told me she had a linked card. We never use our cards, just my card is on the app on both of our phones. My card is indoors and has never left the house. Mrs Motties card was stolen along with her purse over 5 years ago!

Turns out that someone had cashed them all in on her card at Streatham Common yesterday. Nectar have blocked her card and are crediting the points back

You can see that someone has had the card, spent a fiver and produced the card, that would have given them the points balance and they’ve spent them straight away.

Luckily, I spent £140 of my points on a fire TV cube just over a month ago. Where has that card been for the last 5 years?

So,

someone pinched your points, but not all of them,............

...........since you spent £140 of them on a fire TV cube, with which you're watching chargeable content for free..............

Barstewards indeed :D

I have to disagree, Fred.

Aldi have the same 3 tiers of products that most of the supermarkets do (economy, middle for diddle and posh).

I've tried a lot of them and they are comparable with what we used to buy from Tesco or Sainsbury's.

According to Which?, Aldi is the cheapest. Yes, there are a few items we buy that they don't have, which we get elsewhere, but we try to avoid Tesco and Sainsbury's at all costs, unless they are selling stuff at the same price as Aldi.

As for brands, I'm not a brand snob and very very rarely buy anything branded if I can help it.

I agree, that applies to some of their products, but some is limited to only the economy products. The 'posh' stuff in Aldi/Lidl can often be better than from the better respected supermarket sources.

Iceland seem to be similar, with the 2 or perhaps three tiers of quality. Iceland seemed to drop offering the better quality stuff for some months, so I stopped shopping there, but now it seems to be back, with an even greater selection of offerings.

There is massive mixup with my Clubcard.

Number 2 son, who hasn't got a card, but has a Clubcard account (???), has my Clubcard number.

I have a Clubcard with son's Clubcard number and my name on it. But that Clubcard account number does not appear in my Clubcard account ......

Which reminds me, Tesco said they would get back to me so I'll give them a prod.

All sorted now. Both Nectar cards blocked, new cards with a new account number on their way, the stolen 15,500 points have been already credited to the new account PLUS an extra 2000 points for our inconvenience.

An Australian friend on a long visit to UK was complaining about Tesco's price penalty scheme

So I gave then one of my Tesco fobs.
