I had some Korean meatballs from Aldi once. They were the dogs bollux. No, really, they were the actual dogs bollux.

No doubt about it, they are one of the cheapest but in the same vein, a Kia Picanto would get you to the same destination as a mid range BMW, a one bed Park Home would house you the same as a 3 bed semi in a half-decent neighbourhood and a beach holiday in Spain would be as warm as one in Barbados. It all depends what you want, what you can afford and what you are comfortable with.

I go to Lidl for their own brand coffee pods, smoked haddock and digestive biscuits. Of course, I pick up the odd stump grinder or 12 man dinghy if they have them…..

I challenge you to buy a steak from Aldi and one from Sainsbury's.

Make absolutely certain they are exactly the same cut and aged for the same length of time, season them the same and cook them the same. Get Mrs M to unwrap them so she knows which is which, but you don't.

Compare other products, but make sure they are from comparable ranges, ie the TTD range from JS and the Specially Selected range from Aldi.

I think you may be pleasantly surprised.

Been going to Aldi, for around 15 years, since they first opened in a local town, always been satisfied by their food. I only stopped going, when a local Lidl opened here, just a walk away. They don't flourish, by selling rubbish.

Tonight we had Iceland chicken breast, in a garlic, herb and mushroom sauce, accompanied by chips, and salad. We both agreed we enjoyed it, mine went down with a glass of my homemade white wine.

Lidl do real Goirman Bratwurst sausages, 6 big fat ones for approx £3.50 & they airfry beautiful.

True, however Aldi food is generally crap and plenty of the branded products are subtly smaller, same for Lidl and Poundland etc. That said, all of the supermarkets are good for a few things, there's not one that's best overall though.
I agree with you FMT.

We’ve tried Aldi a few times over the years and I’ve never found the food to be of good quality.

Just my experience personally.

One of the Rogue's Vagabonds & Ne'er Do Well'ers is addicted to Aldi cans of Irish Stew. He raves about it so much I keep meaning to try it. He says that when you open the can, it has real fat settled on the top !
