How much do you think I was charged. No extras, no peas, no Wally, no onions, nothing extra at all.

around £17 I’d guess

I sometimes get 2 large cod and 1 large chips and that’s £19.75 from the mobile van that comes to my village on Thursdays.

Why do they serve such large portions of chips? We get one to share, and still have lots left over.

We also had F&C's today, except we had/prefer haddock, which were around that size, their standard/smallest size, they do a larger one. 2x haddock, 1x chips - cost £11.80. Avril fetches, I prep things at home, give a single ring, when she sets off back with them. That just gives me time to mash the pot of tea, butter the bread, get the hot plates out of the oven, and heat the mushy peas up in the microwave. I find the tinned mushy peas, nicer than the chip shop version and I add some extra moisture to them. Avril doesn't like peas, so I open a tin, get out what's needed, pop a plastic cover on what's left and freeze them for next time.

We used to have F&C's on a Friday, but the queues were long, so we swapped to Saturday, when it's much quieter. There is always some left for the dog to have her own F&C's - well the dog likes to go with her to fetch them, only fair ;)

That was a normal size portion of chips and I could have got another plateful from what was left over too. I think a large portion would do a family of 6. Mind you, they charge £6.45 for a large chips.

If you think that is robbery for fish & chips then look up the wholesale price of Cod, then look up the business rates these chippys pay & then maybe look up how much it costs for a weekly service on a 660ltr trade waste bin. Why not go the whole hog & do a draft business plan on the opening up of your very own chip shop, if doing math doesn't make your brain hurt that is.

That much money for fish & chips is still worth it & like any business that has ever faced such difficult times . . . . Only the best survive.

With Sainsburys, the balance of the scheme now seems to be very much skewed towards Nectar Prices, rather than the points. I've just been reading the same is happening with Tesco. There must be a good reason, but it's beyond my little brain to work it out.

If I spend £500 a year at Sainsburys I would get £2.50 worth of points. I'm not going to register with them just for that. However, with Nectar Prices, I could sometimes save several times that on a single purchase. (I can see if I registered I would get the points as well). I think it's an interesting evolution in the schemes.
The good reason is not for us, it's for them.

Customers are forced to get a loyalty card if the stuff they buy is far more expensive without.

If this takes off I'm going to ditch both Clubcard and Nectar.

Edit: forgot to add....and never shop there again.

Newsflash: It took off years ago in Tesco and a few months ago In Sainsbury’s. Even Waitrose do something similar - 25% off fresh fish on Fridays as long as you show your Waitrose card. You can even get a fresh coffee for free at Waitrose as long as you bring your own cup and show your card. Just about every supermarket/store does the same nowdays so why not just go with the flow, I do - I don’t carry cards with me but I have all the cards in an app on my phone, it really isn’t a problem and takes just seconds to scan your card in store. Out of interest, whats the problem with it from your point of view?

Just bought a swimming session for tomorrow at at 6.30am in one of my local fitness centres. £8.00. If I like it, I’m going to get a full swimming membership which is only £23 a month or £230 for the year which works out at just £4.43 a week so a bit of a no-brainer if you are going to use it regularly.

Edit: Just looked into it further and I can get full gym membership including swimming and classes for £24.99/month or £249/year which goes down to £19.99/£199 after my birthday in November.

The prices "without the card" are being artificially raised so high to force you to get a card.

I think I'd rather stick with Aldi at their discount prices.
