If it was genuinely meant as a joke then I apologise, but why didn't you put one of these at the end so we would know?

Call me pedantic, but I never use the lol emoticon as an "I'm-now-joking" indicator - I much prefer either nothing at all, or this one: , which is what I used. Just personal preference, and I can understand you missing the joke - it was deliberately dry.
