When Does Lockdown End?

What's with the Australians protesting about not having the vaccine, if they don't want it?
It's not obligatory. So why protest against something that you're not obliged to have?

When the dust has settled (Which it hopefully will) will we have done worse or better than most countries at fighting Covid19?

Stupidest moves ever were eat out to help out and Christmas get together.....

Was there a spike after eat out to help out? It's not clear there was looking at the data.

Stupid in hindsight, yes. Everyone was very much feeling their way, not sure of how the epidemic might react. I took advantage of the 50% on meals as many did.

Ten quid for a decent steak washed down with a few pints of Tribute, what's not to like?

Things and plans are for a change much like they are saying. Aim to reduce lock down levels at some point in time but wont know if they can do that until they are aware of conditions near those times. Number of people likely to be infected in the population etc. The NOS sample people and then there is the normal testing that goes on in varying numbers.

One change has been mentioned today. March 8th. One person always the same one may visit a person in a care homes providing they are tested first and wear a mask. Some actions allowed and some not. No snogging for instance.

Sounds like testing before may crop up in other areas. ;) My cynical view when I heard mention of this was 2,000 etc going to a football match. Being fair though no idea where this might be used but practicalities have to be considered - I hope.

Anyway Boris spells it out on Monday. He's indicating no more after this one but how can he be sure of that really? I wonder if we will switch to a covid type plan not flu but that can still result in lockdowns. Maybe large area ones will work. Small didn't.

I suspect they have too many unknowns to do anything rapidly and infection levels are still way to high anyway. One worry will be just how effective the vaccine is. That wont clear up for a while. Different ones are being used and there are indications that some may be more effective than others. Then mutations. They wont prevent people from catching it and they may still be capable of spreading it to some degree that might or might not be better than usual. The aim of them is to improve outcome.

My wife was chatting with 7 teacher training long ago cronies yesterday. 5 AZ and 2 Pf. It seems some AZ were told the next one will be Pf. We weren't so another trial maybe or TBD?

You'd give Bletchley Park a run for their money John.(n);)

I had my jab just over two weeks ago. My partner is still waiting for her call, in her age group. She was saying she would not be having the jab, but she works at a local school and thinks the school will make it mandatory. I did a bit of probing last night to find out why she didn't want it, she claims to have a fear of needles. I think I managed to talk her round and see the sense in just having it :)

I don't think I know anyone who actually likes needles/cannulas, I have had around seven since Christmas - at a rough count, 1x IV; 3x injections of one type; 1x covid; 2x blood sampling tests. I hate needles too, I just look the other way as the start. Of all of those, the least noticeable was the covid jab.

He, like the rest of us, is just hoping for the best outcome - combined with keeping a close, careful eye on statistics.

Didn't you know - I run the place. o_O

Other breaking news - 1.7m added to the clinically vulnerable group. Making 4m if correct. Good signs of levelling up. Don't go to work if can't work at home and claim sick pay. Seems the additions are due to post code affluence factors. Not enforced just advice. Not sure how good sick pay is these days.

I have had a 'lock in', which usually results in being 'locked out', but I have never yet experienced a 'lockdown'.

What is this 'lockdown' that you all speak of?

If it involves handcuffs & bedposts then we call it summat different where I live.

Looks like the stats are starting to come in now.

Effects are so far small, but detectable in such a large population. Interesting to see the more severe cases seem to show the best improvement. Change in "cases" does not look significant. It will become clearer week by week. Notice that the "unvaccinated" ages are reducing almost as fast, presumably due to lockdown.

"The effects of the UK’s rapid rollout of coronavirus vaccines have begun to show up in the official figures on infections, hospitalisations and deaths: improvements in the data for the vaccinated over-80s population are outpacing those for younger people."

"In Israel, where more than 80 per cent of over 60s have already had two doses of the BioNTech/Pfizer vaccine, a less rigorous lockdown has seen infections decline at only half the rate as in the UK."

"Both the UK and Israel had a weekly rate of close to 600 cases per 100,000 on January 12, but by Feb 18, the rate in the UK — at 126 — was under half the rate of 300 in Israel.

A rapid relaxation of restrictions in Britain would almost certainly see a rapid reversal of the progress made because the virus prevalence rate is similar to what it was in early December when the last lockdown in England was eased."
