I bet your house is full of imported goods.
If the best candidate for the job is "local" then I would also bet that an employer would pick that local candidate in preference to an equally qualified/experienced candidate from far away. It makes far more sense to hire somebody with local connections and who is less likely to get homesick and sod off back.
The problems arise
1) Local candidates are not as qualified/experienced
2) Local candidates are not prepared to apply for the job because they cannot be bothered, maybe because they get more cash from the taxpayer over here.
If nobody local is suitable, or the foreigner is better, then it would seem reasonable/sensible to hire the person from further away.
Yes it's a problem that we have a load of kids who cannot get jobs. But my daughter has just got a job in Norway. We can also apply for jobs overseas you know, it's not just a one way street.
