Zion and the Art of Armageddon

Yahya Sinwar, the top Hamas leader in Gaza, now hidden in a labyrinth of tunnels and agonisingly out of reach for Israel’s military, Sinwar is said to have risen to prominence by rooting out collaborators before spending 22 years behind bars – time, he says, spent studying Hebrew and his enemy. “I am a specialist in the Jewish people’s history, more than many of them,” he says.

You're quite a fan aren't you.

No more so than any competent counter-intelligence would be in this complex situation, otherwise you end up in an echo chamber, listening to the opinions of sycophants...

Kimhi, who teaches at Tel Aviv University, has studied Netanyahu’s mind for almost a quarter of a century. In 1999, the same year that Netanyahu’s first term as premier would end, Kimhi’s behavioural analysis of the leader found a concerning pattern of behaviour. Some of his conclusions: Netanyahu was narcissistic, entitled and paranoid, and he reacted poorly under stress. As people age, Kimhi said, their behaviours tend to become more extreme. For Netanyahu, his paranoia and narcissism have grown. He trusts no one, except maybe his immediate family, and prioritises his “personal future” over all else, Kimhi’s research found. Al Jazeera

Why would anyone become a dedicated follower of such a man? How has it come to this, FillyB.?
What happened to the carefree beachbum toking his cares away all those years ago?

Seems there is going to be a security council vote US lead calling for an immediate ceasefire. Sounds like a word is missing. Have to wait and see.

Benny has resigned over the lack of a 6 point plan. An Israeli one - I assume. Overall intent doesn't sound any different to what Benjamin is currently doing. Maybe he fancies being PM.

There was a report indicating that Israel is encouraging immigration from India for jobs that may have been done by Palestinians that Israelis don't want. Must be Hindu maybe?

Despite the UN voting in favour of an immediate ceasefire, Netanyahu remains 'sceptical' of an end to hostilities while his troops continue their mission to destroy Hamas. They said it welcomed the move and was ready to work with mediators in indirect negotiations with Israel to implement it but stressed the group would continue “our struggle” to end the Israeli occupation and work on setting up a “fully sovereign” Palestinian state.

Netanyahu and his government have resisted calls for any “day after” plan that would bar Israel from having some form of security presence in the territory. Blinken said he would urge Israel to come up with alternatives that would be acceptable. That's why Gantz resigned from the government on Sunday. No change in the short term as Gantz and his allies in the opposition would need to persuade five Knesset members to leave the current governing coalition and vote to call new elections. It’s possible that could happen, but unlikely. While Netanyahu can survive without Gantz, he cannot survive without the extreme right Religious Zionism party. This faction is inveterately opposed to the only feasible scenario for a non-Hamas postwar Gaza government — putting some kind of Palestinian government in charge of the Strip. Instead, they want Netanyahu to announce that Israel would reoccupy Gaza and rebuild Jewish settlements on its land. The only option for Netanyahu is to keep the war going for as long as he can.

An Egyptian was interviewed about what Blinken said there. 2nd hand but essentially make HAMAS accept the deal. I wonder how?
Elsewhere he is saying it's all down to HAMAS now.
This isn't long read

Mmmmm how does all of that fit in with Blinken's comments. Fact seems to be the war may just continue if talks stop.

The boy you speak of was travelling down the Gulf of Eilat, or Gulf of Aqaba depending on your point of view, heading for Dahab, a one camel town on the Sinai coast, it wasn't a resort in them days, there were no resorts. They bought a few bottles of beer in Dahab and travelled another mile or so before setting up camp on the deserted beach. Scavenged for some wood to make a fire before it got dark, proper dark, black.
By the light of the fire they drunk beer and rolled some joints, while listening to music on a portable cassette player, The Doors probably, LA Woman, I wanna tell you about Texas Radio and the Big Beat.
Stoned, immaculate, they lay on their backs staring up at the stars, too many to count. 'Oh wow man' said the boys friend, 'shooting stars, or fireflies'. The boy said 'or ******g tracer bullets'. They got up and ran as fast and as far from that fire as they could, stumbling and falling before eventually finding somewhere very dark to sleep.

Hamas queered the ceasefire talks yet again.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken attacked Hamas on Wednesday in a press conference in Doha with Qatar's Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Israeli media reported.

"Hamas could have answered with a single word: Yes," Blinken said.

"Instead, Hamas waited nearly two weeks and then proposed more changes, a number of which go beyond positions that it had previously taken and accepted," Blinken continued.

Hamas submitted its response jointly with the Palestinian Islamic Jihad on Tuesday, describing it as “responsible” and “positive”. A disturbing development as the two groups don't usually see eye-to-eye about most things. Israel had rejected the plan that Hamas agreed to early in May, and the Israeli government has not publicly endorsed the US deal. The Qatari prime minister has called for a “sustainable solution” to the conflict that would see the establishment of a Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital...which is a deal breaker for the Zionists.

Israel has also refused to sign.

Refused to sign up to changes Hamas have demanded despite those changes being items Hamas have previously agreed to.

As Sinwar said, Hamas have Israel where they want them, the more Palestinian civilians that die, the stronger the Hamas position becomes.

As I said, Hamas will do everything they can to avoid a peace deal.

Your wrong Filly. If Israel accepted the deal their mp's would have a vote and their gov would announce they had. Meanwhile Benjamin and others still say the same things. The whole problem is an agreed method of getting into Phase 2 and maintaining a permanent ceasefire.

HAMAS reply according to Blinken has factors that can be bridged and some that wont be. It doesn't take much imagination to guess what those are.

Blinken is a Zionist. There is only Palestine - the Zionist entity needs to be permanently deleted.

Why are you trying to negate the fact Israel had agreed acceptance with Blinken? all that was needed was for Hamas to agree.
