It begs the question that if we're all going to be driving electric cars in 10 years time, when do the petrol taps get turned off.

I remember fuel shortages in the late seventies. After taking Mrs Mottie-to-be home after a night out, I used to get on a bloody long queue to buy petrol. Unless my memory is playing tricks, I think they only allowed you a certain amount too. Weren’t rationing books issued but never used? I seem to remember that too. I dunno, it was so long ago.

All the might of the world leaders, sympathetic to climate change, are struggling to convince the world to say no to fossil fuels. In reality, all they need do is have their own Brexit style tantrum, kick out all the hard working foreigners and have a staunch anti-foreigner government in charge...hey presto!...zero petrol.

Unless my memory is playing tricks, I think they only allowed you a certain amount too.

50p in some cases if I recall correctly, at the time I would generally buy a quids worth, and a squirt of Red X if I was feeling flush.

There’s a shortage of cheap, exploited workers you mean.

Generally speaking, a shortage of workers makes for higher wages, that in turn encourages U.K. workers into those jobs. Okay, prices might rise but I’m happy to pay a bit more if it means getting British people into work. I’d rather pay more for goods or services than pay more in tax to keep people in benefits. Gives them a sense of worth too. It’ll take time though.

My family and half my street would go to Kent each summer picking fruit and hops. Don’t see why they can’t still do that these days - it was a bloody good working holiday. Kids would love it in the school break.

Yes, BP is rationing petrol to it's stations because they have a shortage and distribution problems. Why is this so difficult for you to understand? Why are you imaginging ration books? I can only assume because you suffered rationing in WW2 that you can't comprehend that rationing has any other meaning. Maybe you're just tired and fractious. All that driving can take it out of you, though you may have to cut back if the fuel situation worsens.

The Government has changed the allowable working hours of truck drivers but this means that more drivers will be forced to work while overtired.
The restrictions cover driving, not waiting or loading/unloading.
I don't fancy a tired tanker driver nodding off after a 10 hour driving day
