I did ask you earlier Adam ad i will ask you again---can you inform me now of all these bad things we did to the rest of the world which are somewhere near or on par with anything the Japs did? or infact just tell me any of these bad things that we did to others i would love to here of them as my history teachers forgot to tell me off them---and before you start spare me the one of the potatoe famine
Well, I am in the "British Empire was the best thing that happened to most of these places" camp, look what many have done since we pulled out.
However, whilst on the whole we brought peace, order and enlightenment to most of the world, we have had a few moments that aren't to be proud of. The first one that springs to mind is the Boer Wars.
In the Boer Wars, the British created what was arguably the world's first concentration camp. The British put quarter of a million people in those camps, roughly half native and half Boer. Now, whilst the war was fully justifiable, was there a need to kill 25,000 Boer civilians, 20,000 Africans and to employ a "scorched earth" policy on towns, farms, livestock etc? Probably not.
It was a justified war, but the casualties and treatment of civilians can not be justified. Sure we gave them some money to make it up to them, but would you feel happy if the Japanese government just chucked some money at you? I doubt it.
You're welcome to keep on hating the Japanese, that's your perogative. But forgive me if I don't join in your xenophobia.
For your own sake, remember that bearing a grudge never hurts anyone but yourself. Whilst you are sitting there stewing about it the Japanese don't know how you feel, unless their PM happens to be into DIY! I'm sure there are groups you can join that pressurise and lobby the Japanese government, you obviously feel strongly about the issue so your efforts would be well spent there.
