They are 2 men who live in rented accommodation in Northern Ireland, get payment towards car, pay no rent, no rates, no presciption charges (when I spoke to them not sure if free now or not), free dental treatment, free glasses....etc etc etc shall I go on,

my cousin and I are friendly with these guys and my cousins wife works in the benefit office she helps these guys claim every single benefit they are legally entitled to - it used to be called invalidity benefit no idea what the current term is and I REPEAT

YES I DO!!!!!

If I say that Murder is a more serious crime than theft does that mean I am soft on theft?
however you do like to be tough on benefit fraud, but you are happy to tolerate the much larger amount of money lost to tax fraud.

So I continue to say you are soft on the criminals that you sympathise with.

We have not yet established which other crimes you sympathise with.

@JohnD

You really are appearing like B-A-S and going a little bit mad.

He hasn't said he is soft on tax evaders as you keep claiming or willing to tolerate tax evasion.

Even if his main point is , in his opinion one is worse than the other, that doesn't mean he tolerates or approves of the lesser offence.

Looks pretty soft to me.
But only only the crime he is sypathetic to

Now we go back to what is worse. The very fact that Tax Evaders are in most cases still giving back to the country rather than taking (just at a reduced rate) would put them head and shoulders above benefit fraudsters, who only take.

Paying slightly less money to the state (which considering you are likely to have everything paid for privately and aren't entitled to anything because you earn ok, doesn't give you anything back).

Not giving as much of your money to the state for no return is less of a crime than stealing from the state while paying nothing back.

if you add up incapacity benefit plus DLA (middle rate) mobility allowance (lower rate) severe disability allowance, plus housing benefit plus council tax benefit, plus free bus pass (NOW card) plus free prescriptions..it does add up to approx £400 per week....

most of the people i work with get this amount of money, which is more than I earn ....but i wouldnt swap my life for theirs!....

The problem is, you need to know all of a persons actual circumstances before you can work out benefit entitlement.

Bus passes are only for pensioners, and you can't claim SDA anymore.

The OP indicated that the two in question were on Invalidity Benefit which I assume he meant Incapacity Benefit. No free prescriptions with IB.

Help with HB and CTB would be effected by the receipt of some benefits and not by others. But I believe you only get 100% HB and CTB if you are on Income Support.

i work in mental health....i have a large caseload, i know what im talking about!.......also....free bus travel is available to more than just old people!..

Free bus travel is available to those on Disability Living Allowance.. But,, only after 9:30 in the morning. If they have a hospital appointment at 9am and use public transport to get there they have to pay same as the rest of us.

BTW Skitz, your signature on your post would be highly offensive to someone who had suffered brain damage from birth, who had no option but to survive on benefits.

Bus travel after the times indicated are also free to any one over 60 years of age, irrespective of their health.

Unless you are aware of all of an individuals circumstances, you can't possibly work out how much they are getting in benefits.

Yes free bus passes are available to certain disabled people but not all disabled people, but anyone over 60 has an automatic right to claim.

You mentioned SDA, but you must know that no one can claim this after 2001.

I worked for the DHSS, then DSS, then Benefits Agency and finally DWP and Jobcentre Plus over a period of 18 + years. I was on the benefit paying side in the 80s (supplementary Benefit as was then) so my knowledge is very rusty. From the late 80s until retirement in 2007, I was involved in Benefit Fraud, investigation and prosecution of offenders.

I sent a nicely written letter to the benefits people telling them that I am now 69 and dont feel very well and could they send me a few bob to tide me over.
They sent me a very nice letter telling me to p*** off, charming!

being eligible for DLA doesnt automatically make you eligible for free bus travel...though generally the claimant would get mobility component which at the lower rate is £18.95 per week...this should be used for transport....there is also the patient transport service which is free but has to be pre booked....

all this is veering off topic!....but thought id throw my 2 pennies worth in.. :LOL:

It is not for everyone on DLA.

@Big Tone,
It isn't worth them doing the job? Do they make a heavy loss? If not, than common decency means that it is worth them doing the job.
What the hec is that supposed to mean? I'm guessing I am not alone here

Are you seriously trying to tell me/us that you would work just to break even, or for little reward, while lining the pockets of business men and women?

Do me a favour...
