You are wrong, there is no evidence that shows fracking is commercially viable in the UK.50 years worth of gas is not to be sniffed at....
Energy Security until we are self sufficient in Wind & Nuclear, and have converted our homes away from gas central heating.
Everyone who objects can buy putins gas, the rest of us can have warm homes at an affordable cost.

50 years of gas, is just throwing dice.
If it wasn't thought to be commercially viable it wouldn't have even been explored. Wether it's 10, 20, 30, 40 or 50 years needs more research, in the meantime, it's cheap compared to deep sea drilling and cheaper, what's not to like? are you opposed to UK having energy security? would you rather we tether ourselves to whatever clusterf**k the EU comes up with next as an energy policy?
Tik Tok news?Fracking has a bad reputation, at least some of which it has earned.
If Cameron and his cronies hadn't scrapped the previous (Labour) administration's programme of renewables (especially on-shore) we would by now have been a lot nearer to energy self-sufficiency than we currently are. Instead they threw it all away. Meanwhile Boris the Clown has been bleating about Labour not having started any new nuclear stations (whilst the Tories have started, er, ONE). So if you want to look for those whose energy policies have actually clusterf**ked the UK, look at the benches where sit Cameron, May, Johnson and Truss! 12 wasted years because of a bunch of spivs who are in the pocket of the oil and gas lobby! (and the same people who allowed the closure of our main gas storage reserve four years ago, Rough, leaving the country very vulnerable)If it wasn't thought to be commercially viable it wouldn't have even been explored. In some states in the USA it has affected drinking water quality over huge areas.People don't like the idea of tiny earthquakes beneath their feet, chemical smells and risks to their drinking water and health.

Maybe the Monarch ought to have more input into political decisions..... It's known as shortermism and it has been a lack of thought for the future, ...
I wouldn't say that. Gas was Thatcher's policy to screw the miners, THAT was short-term thinking. Renewables was Blair's (and to an extent Major's, before him) solution to the fact that North Sea gas was going to run out at some time - it was supposed to be a long-term solution. Cameron et al threw that away because they were getting bungs from the oil and gas industry. So what makes this an all government problem? As far as I can see it is be very much a Tory creationToo be fair, it has been ALL political parties to blame for the current energy crisis we are in. It's known as shortermism and it has been a lack of thought for the future, since Thatcher was in power and she closed the mines.

If we had spent half of what has been spent /blown on nuclear and fossil fuel on renewable storage/ generation we would be leading the world. That was told to me by an actual nuclear scientist.
