Evolution part II

THE BRIDGE

A man on his Harley was riding along a California beach when suddenly the sky clouded above his head and, in a booming voice, God said, 'because you have tried to be faithful to me in all ways, I will grant you one wish.'

The biker pulled over and said, 'Build a bridge to Hawaii so I can ride over anytime I want.'

God replied, 'Your request is materialistic; think of the enormous challenges for that kind of undertaking; the supports required reaching the bottom of the Pacific and the concrete and steel it would take! I can do it, but it is hard for me to justify your desire for worldly things. Take a little more time and think of something that could possibly help mankind.'

The biker thought about it for a long time. Finally, he said, 'God, I wish that I, and all men, could understand women; I want to know how she feels inside, what she's thinking when she gives me the silent treatment, why she cries, what she means when she says nothing's wrong, why she snaps and complains when I try to help, and how I can make a woman truly happy.
God replied: 'You want two lanes or four on that bridge...?"

You have to realise that, in nature, evolution is an extremely slow process. Taking thousands of years for species to evolve. The way some are talking on here, you'd think it bloody well happened overnight. Even if they could see "evolution in action" they'd be more inclined to respond saying "That's God in action." ;) ;)

in the past 6 thousand years of history, we havent changed not one bit, other than in technology, and knowledge. but still got a pair of lags, arms, eyes, heart
head, nothing has changed.

The obvious weakness in evolution theory is the lack of ancestry. Where are the bones of whatever the giraffe evolved from? They are much more recent than dinosaur bones (which are plentiful) so where are they?

Don't forget there is also the genetic record.

What is your alternative to evolution?

I'm not denying evolution - only that (as usual) we think it is a simple process. Nothing in nature is simple. The further we delve the more apparent it becomes the less we know.

Of course. Don't forget, evolutionary theory is relatively young and prior to it the main view was that everything was made by god (conveniently forgetting to ask the question of where god came from and why it was ok to believe that god could simply exist but that everything in the natural world was too complex to do so or have evolved).

Now that DNA mapping is available they are racing ahead on the ancestry but re-creating the conditions that led to the specific branches we see will always be virtually impossible.

My own view is that life simply wants and cannot help but exist, you can look at the most harsh places and conditions in the world/galaxy/universe and you will find life of some kind. Once life of some form takes hold, an arms race begins with whatever differences that provide an advantage in consuming resources proliferating.

Hmmm The human race is actually around 4" taller on average now than they were a couple of hundred years ago. Why is this then ? Surely something is driving this change? Is this evolution in action? Could be there's some benefit to the human race to be taller. ;) ;)

But asking where God came from or where the physical universe came from is just the same question. What acted upon nothing to make it a something? Dunno but let's call it God. ;)

Simple nutrition.

Six thousand years is nothing compared to the timescale that evolution has had to work it's effects on life on this planet.
Someone once said that if the timespan of life on earth equated to the height of your living room ceiling, the timespan of homo sapiens wouldn't even reach the top of the carpet.

There is a theory that the universe isn't infinite at all. Some reckon the universe will eventually stop expanding and collapse in on itself, then explode again , with another big bang. If this theory is true, then it's surely the natural forces within the universe at work,,,,, No God, No supernatural being, No benevolent, omnipresent being.

I have heard it said that there was no time before the big bang. So nothing had to act upon anything to cause the big bang. But there are a number of theories currently regarding this area.

There is no evidence of any god though.
