Fruit and veg ‘will run out’ unless Britain charters planes to fly in farm workers from Europe

Not at all! Another benefit of the lockdown is that, because borders are closed, immigration will have stopped!
Andy is right.
Stopped for the time being but did you see all those immigrants queued up in Calais yesterday. One said they had no clothes or shoes but he was wearing a well known branded coat and trainers?
They were all being given a good supply of food. Personally i would disperse them all and advise them to seek their nearest social office in the first EU country they landed in if they were that desperate to leave their home country. Why are the french allowing them to queue in Calais waiting for the next 'anonymous tipoff' ride into the UK.(you bet your boots the french are turning a blind eye to the ones leaving the camp in the direction of Dover).
All you moaning about my comments, first, please step up and welcome an immigrant into your house and home them yourself.

Never mind young labourers..how about fit unemployed people
as I said before, high areas of unemployment are not located near to fruit and veg farms

the government has cut dwp department to the bone so the chance of them organising something is zero.

I dont know whether the benefit system allows job seekers to take short term contracts without losing all their benefits.

you can keep arguing simplistic solutions, but reducing the number of unemployed is not as simple as saying 'well there are jobs, so its sorted'.

most unemployed people would love to have a worthwhile job, the long term solution for them is to bring investment into the poor regions of this country

the feckless that dont want to work -well you can do what you like with them, but its a waste of time trying to get them into work. There is a sub culture in this country, a sector who dont work, probably do drugs, are involved in petty crime, probably have family issues. They take up a lot of police and social service resources, but there is no easy solution -you wont get them picking fruit

Comrade Notch 7, since when has it been the government's responsibility to get people to and from a place of work? Do the governments of Pakistan and Poland provide transport for all their emigres who want to work in Britain?

You are making excuse after excuse for keeping people on the dole. An enterprising person who wanted to work wouldn't see distance as an obstacle. He would, like Norman Tebbit's dad, get on his bike and look for work.

Wasn't that supposedly one of the benefits of Universal Credit?, that more hours could be worked without the loss of benefits, incentivising people to work.
As an aside, I always thought IDS as the architect of Universal Credit came in for a lot of unwarranted abuse. It was in theory a good system but he was never initially given the budget he wanted, when that budget was cut further and further, he resigned.
George Osborne was surely the true villain in that saga.

Wake up Andy. Stop offering solutions for problems that don't exist.
