99% of screws pre the reform act in 2001 (since then the prison officers can be charged for violence !, an the home office sued for the beatings/ torture that went on ...)in prisons are the bullying /yobs thrown out of the Brit Army went into the prison service for the ruck ..
my cousin Jason ,
a real nasty Sh*t ...
he was sent down for armed robbery to strangeways in 89 ,
got 7 yrs out in 3 ..
til he got on that roof ,
he was given another sentence of 16yrs as a organiser ....
tell him
that these officers are they just doing a job ,
he is a career crim , he accepts the jail time like , the dole ,
but he didnt expect Thatchs Govt too come down on the prisoners as they had docu evidence of torture/beatings in strangeways but the home office of the day dismissed it as "Not Necessary "
He is is still at HM Prison Manchester ,
he has mellowed
he doesnt start riots an mug/maim screws ..
he is up for a parole board in a year ..
he still has that glint in the eye ...
I love him to bits ..
but I know he is a wrong un ..an dont ever trust him ..
of course its the "going straight spiel" he comes out with ,
he has passed 3 IT courses while there , programmers/then the 2 after ... ,
I hope jase does well but ..
I think that in a few years we find that some banks have been emptied ,lol

I am fine with my views attracting criticism but do not expect people to try and change them for me - as Maggie thatcher once said 'the lady is not for turning'...
Maybe the beatings weren't the correct response but leave a bunch of sex starved blokes alone in a war zone with very little to do in the way or R&R. Having abuse hurled at them from all angles and no support or even proper equipment from our govt. and you are asking for trouble.
Who knows what those kids had gotten up to out of the camera shots, they could have been proffering up beatings of squaddies and were getting their just desserts.
I seem to remember not that long ago that a squaddie had been dragged from his landrover and battered to death by some Iraqi militants.
Thing is, we're not there, we don't know and tbh I pity those poor servicemen being sent to such a repressed sh*t hole as that.

the british policed parts of iraq are the only ones that are having this problem
