how would you uphold law and order?

You could televise that, that would make excellent post threshold viewing.
Ch4 could put a red triangle in the corner of the screen and broadcast it at tea time.

Hmmm I rather think that the Brazillians were onto something with their death squads.... We'd have to give them a much more acceptable name though.... How about The Special Patrol Group?.... Nothing to scare the Guardian readers there..

i'm surprised (or am i?) that this far in, there's not one sensible offering...

we all need the police in order for us to live as we do.... yeah the edges occasionly get dirty, but all in all... we have the best cops in the world....

I think society has gone downhill so fast in the last 20-30yrs that, there's now no way to uphold law and order.
The government keep on about overcrowded prisons and tell judges and magistrates to go easy on offenders. Give them shorter prison sentences or community orders etc.
Instead the government should build more prisons, so creating jobs in the construction industry, security and education services and reduce overcrowding at a stroke. Tell judges to be harsh on regular offenders, give them meaningful sentences so they will think twice about re-offending.
Of course, this will never happen. Society has been lost to the do gooders of this country who demand lesser sentences and bleat on about Human Rights, yet remain strangely silent when asked about the human rights of offenders victims.

I cannot agree more, it is unfortunate that the police seem to be let down by the judiciary.... Being a copper is a thankless task but whenever there is a problem we always expect the Police to sort it all out

There are a few on here who complain incessantly about the police, always referring to the big mistakes they have made in the past. At the same time these few, never suggest how policing could be improved. Some see the criminals as victims of society, deserving of our compassion and understanding (yeh right)
As has been pointed out, our police have their hands tied behind their backs, by a poor CPS and even poorer judiciary.
They're caught between a rock and a very hard place.
I've asked some on here who they'd call if their house was burgled or they were attacked in the street. No responses received yet. ;) ;)

By the time they turn up, take a few crap notes and never catch the perp its barely worth your while

Everybody would have to have a chip fitted internally that tracks their location, speed and emotion.. Also, if needed a supervisor could call them in the event of a problem being flag up.
For example.

1. Going to fast on a restricted road.
2. Being in a place at unusual hours.
3. The chip would be able to detect an aggressive act. On subsequent investigation found to be criminal or in a game.
4. If the persons life support is a bit wonky it would flag up the need for a doctor.
5. This chip would also be able to communicate words that suggest a criminal intent.
6. lots more I guess

I guess there's lots of things that can be done that would negate the need for policing. The data categories collected that infers crime and disorder is probable quite small so I would think in time you'll get found out if you did anything out of the ordinary.

This is just for laughs. :D :D :D

There's many a true word spoken in jest. We already have ID chips for cats and dogs so the technical problems have been solved. ID chips for us might be introduced on a voluntary basis as a cheap replacement for passports. ;) ;) ;)

I don't think the tracking device would go down too well and it would require a power source :( :( :( but a passive chip would still report your location every time it passed a detection device. I wonder! :?: :?: :?: Would all detectors have to be clearly visible and painted bright yellow?

I wouldn't fancy going to the vets every ten years when it wanted renewing. Have you seen the size of them things? Even our dog yelped when he got one. ;) ;) ;)

So treat everyone like a criminal even though the vast majority dont commit crimes

Plod's first and only rule...

Of course they don't actually know anything about the rule of law themselves ;)
