In simple terms (for your simple mind) that means that the stock level of any species should be maintained at a level whereby it can survive but can be utilised if you believe that you have a right to eat another animal...

There is a quota on whale hunting just as there is a quota on cod fishing...

To suggest that there should be a ban based on a ridiculous concept of 'intelligence', is quite frankly an unintelligent argument...

Hence my comments about pigs. They are recognised to be highly intelligent but farmed in often horrible ways...

In Austria in the day the slaughter man came around yer house ( my grand mothers) to dispatch the calf by hand

And have seen plenty of chickens and ducks dispatched

But that has nowt to do with hunting endangered

There's a retired slaughtering butcher back in t'pub.

He reckons pigs are the animal most likely to know they're about to be slaughtered, which can create many problems in a small abattoir. If an animal is overly stressed immediately before slaughter then the meat is often tainted with all the hormones . . . .

There are quotas for hunting whales and as long as the respective countries adhere to them i don't see a concern that we're about to return to the bad old days in the 19th century when a Nantucket sleigh ride was all the rage.
Japan needs closer scrutiny, however. Damn sneaky, they are, when it comes to hunting whale.
