This would mean tax being taken in other areas which could lead to obvious awkward questions, like wtf you doing with all this money.
Vat off building materials could be very adventagious to those on lower incomes who like doing a bit of diy.

It's not a simple question to say why are somethings taxed at one rate and others a different rate. Why do different countries have different tax rules? They are elected by their people and trusted to decide the rules that we all live by. It's right and proper that the people can elect who they want and if they don't like what they come up with they can elect someone else. That isn't easy once you are in the world of the EU. Within the EU countries can get singled out because they have different wealth / industry / philosophy etc.

That is how we ended up with a few countries picking up the bill and nobody was able to change that from within.

You said brexit gave us the chance to reduce vat. A big voting point

It was pointed out it could have been reduced without brexit.

You claim it could be reduced more

It wasn't reduced before or after brexit.

Where is the benefit ? What is your point of claiming it could be reduced?
